I have cooked chickens in Romertopf clay baker over 30 years, and my mother cooked chickens in her clay baker. I love chicken cooked this way; it stays moist and flavorful. The only reason I had to buy a new one was my own carelessness in leaving the cooling chicken within reach of our basset hound, who brought the dish crashing down on the floor. (They are clay after all.) I have also used my clay baker for baking apples, mussels, small roasts (I have a small size baker).Customer Review: Clay cooker

I heard about clay cookers from Southern Cooking cookbook. I tried one, this 3 qt. size. I liked the results so much, I bought three more in different sizes. Easy to use, wonderful meals in one pot. I learned about Romertopf bakers when visiting a friend. She prepared the best chicken I had ever eaten, and one of the things that so impressed me was how easy it was to use. We got to visit the whole time dinner was cooking! She wasn't tied to the kitchen doing meal prep. It was so easy that I knew I had to get a baker for myself. I chose the 3 qt. size because although we are only two, I knew I would want to use it when cooking for guests.
The day the Romertopf arrived, I was getting ready to make meatloaf for dinner, and happened to notice the meatloaf recipe that came with the baker. It was amazing. I am not a big fan of meatloaf, but this was really good. It was such a treat to be able to put everything in the baker, pop it in the oven, and have the whole dinner ready in one easy pot.
