Description of Reco International Fish Baker
The Romertopf clay fish baker is large enough to prepare 2 to 4 servings of fish. Clay pot cooking allows you to prepare quick, healthy, high quality meals that cost less and taste better. Food cooked in a clay pot requires no liquid unless specifically called for. The result: all natural juices, the full flavor and taste and all the essential nutrients and vitamins are retained. The taste is truly superb. You can cook all kinds of food without adding any fat, in line with the demands of modern dietetics. The Romertopf is made of a special porous clay and is unglazed inside and out allowing it to breathe during the cooking process. By soaking the pot in water before cooking, moisture is absorbed by the clay. The tiny water particles are released during cooking, penetrating and blending with the natural food juices, increasing flavor, tenderness and enhancing aroma.For centuries food has been cooked in earthenware pots over open fires or in brick ovens. Römertopf carries on this tradition by crafting clay pots and dishes specifically intended for cooking a variety of vegetables, meats, casseroles, and breads in the home oven. Manufactured in Mexico, each vessel is made from unglazed and porous terra cotta containing no lead or cadmium. Before each use, the pot is soaked in water in order to absorb a certain amount of moisture into the permeable clay. This moisture is slowly released during cooking, sealing in the natural juices and increasing the flavor and tenderness.
Designed with a lid in the shape of a fish covered with scales and fins, there is no mistaking what the Römertopf fish baker is intended to cook. With a 3-pound capacity, the 8-1/2- by 15-inch pot can be used to prepare a whole fish or a seafood stew for a family of four and can go straight from the oven to the table and can be used as a serving dish. A glazed interior ensures that the baker does not absorb and retain a fishy smell. While the pot can be used in both the oven and microwave, it is intended to be used primarily in the oven.
