Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Rabbit Air BioGS (model 421A - covers 600 sq. ft.) High Quality Ultra-Quiet Air Purifier - Low Maintenance - Washable Filters!Customer Review: Ionic Tower UV Summary: 5 Stars
We've had the Ionic Tower UV for over three weeks now, and we're keeping it. I'm not going to sit here and claim it works mircles, but can tell you the air quality is better. Ok, maybe I can't tell, but my girlfriend with asthma can. It took about a week before she really noticed a difference. Hasn't had an attack since week two -- she ususally has one every other day or so.
This purifier is rated to clean an 800 square foot area, or about the size of a small/medium two-bedroom apartment. Compare that to the 500 square foot area of the more expensive Sharper Image without UV and there is no comparison. The larger unit offered by Sharper Image with UV does compare, but it's price tag is well over twice the price as this one -- no wonder they'll give you half off a second purifier.
When viewing the Ionic Tower UV online, I thought it looked great. I was suprised when I received it -- it looks even better -- and no, I don't work for the company. It is of the highest quality, and looks like a work of art.
For the most part it is silent. During it's normal operation you can only barely hear it within five feet. If you're even closer, you can hear it running thru it's cycle, where it turns on for about 20 seconds and then turns off for 2 seconds (low buzzing sound).
When it gets dirty it does make a crackling sound similar to that of a bug zapper/egg frying, which is slightly irritating. That is easily rectified by a quick cleaning. It's very easy to clean and only takes about a minute -- take this from a person who hates to clean things. Just take out the filter consisting of three long metalic bars and wipe off the dust. It's recommened that you clean it every five days, but it usually starts crackling after three.
Overall, I'm very pleased and highly recommend this tower.
Customer Review: quiet and it works Summary: 5 Stars
bought this after the naturopath said to take out carpets and get an airpurifier. those looked too big, and too noisy. did a lot of research, and husband pushed for this one.
the first unit had a problem w/ it's sensors. had a bit of trouble w/ customer service @ first...they kept making us try different things to make it work...like poofing baby powder in front of it! this just made it dirty. after a stern email, the replacement came and we love it. i keep it in the bedroom, but sometimes in the short hall between 2 bedrooms and bathroom.
pro's:
+ it does what it says. air seems cleaner in the room.
+ it's the lowest decibel level i could find in my research. it really is very quiet in automatic mode(but not silent,) and i have bionic 'mom' ears.
+ it detects farts within 3-7 seconds...even the ones from under the sheets. i don't know how it can smell them b4 i do. my nose is bionic too.
+ light enough for me to move short distances.
+ 'pollen mode' rocks. i use this mode on VOG-gy days. VOG is volcanic smog.
+ husband can clean the filters
+ has a place to store the remote
con's:
- it does get a little louder on the higher fan speeds, but it's bearable and at a frequency that is acceptable to my bionic mom ears.
- i still don't think it's dust sensor is accurate. sometimes it detects dust.
- it doesn't detect the cat's dander like i'd hoped.
- faintly rattles if floor is uneven. it needs some type of leveling mechanism.
- light on the front makes the room bright.
- my son doesn't think it works, so he refuses to try it in his dusty, stinky room.
if this thing doubled as a dehumidifier and had a uv light inside, it would be perfect.
Customer Review: Worth every penny Summary: 5 Stars
Since moving to Virginia, I spend at least a month every spring feeling like I'm waking up with a bad cold. I had promised myself that this year, I would try a good-quality air purifier. I debated among the Sharp FP-N60CX Plasma Cluster Air Purifier, the Mitsubishi PlasmaPure Quiet HEPA Air Purifier, and this one. In the end, they all had high ratings, and I am sure they'd all have worked well, but I liked the looks of this one. Turns out, it looks even cooler in person. More importantly, I wake up feeling great. Also, it's inaudible on the night setting which is important since it's in my bedroom. The smell sensor really works - drop a new pile of laundry near it and it will go off because of that dryer sheet smell. My room is just so much nicer now and although it can't follow me around and take care of my allergies the rest of the day, it let's me get a good night's sleep, which is all I could ask for. To get into the technical side of it, there are two sensors - one for pollen/dust and one for smells. There are indicators on the front which show the mode the unit is in (such as turbo, pollen, night) as well as levels indicators of smell on one side and pollen on the other. I also need to mention that the distributor, SPARO, is wonderful. I asked them by email before my order shipped to send silver instead of white. They responded quickly that that was no problem. Then I let them know that two buttons on my remote didn't work, and they responded immediately that they were overnighting a new one, which they did. Couldn't be happier with them or the product! You can't go wrong with this.
Customer Review: Love my Rabbit Air Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned this air purifier for over three years. If anything happened to it, I'd order a replacement immediately.
I leave it running 24-hours a day, usually right next to my bed. On the second highest speed, it is very, very quiet. Even the highest speed is quiet - it's quiet enough to not interrupt my sleep. I have a lot of allergies and the Rabbit Air has made a significant difference in keeping them under control.
The only drawback that I've ever found is that the light on the display is bright. There is no way to dim it. I get around this by draping a washcloth over the top of the machine to cover the panel. Other than this minor issue, (and it is a minor issue), I love this air purifier and have recommended it to friends and family.
Maintenance on it is very easy. I don't vacuum the filter nearly as often as I should, yet it still works great. I have also noticed that the amount of dust in my house is very minimal and I don't need to dust frequently.
As for the cost, it is worth every penny. I am just now replacing the Hepa filter for the first time. Also, I have not noticed any increase in my energy bill even though I use the air purifier 24/7.
I had a problem with the remote control soon after I purchased my Rabbit Air. I just emailed the company and they were friendly and helpful. They promptly sent me a replacement remote without any hassles. Excellent customer service is just one more reason why I'd buy a Rabbit Air again.
Customer Review: Quiet and effective Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the Rabbit Air BioGS to help clear the air in my office, which was dirty (or moldy?) enough to prevent me from recovering from a lung infection I had contracted two months prior. Within a half hour of turning the unit on, the air in my office was noticeably fresher and cleaner than the rest of the office. Within a couple of days it had cleaned several hundred square feet around my office, and I could tell because the multiple smells that had accumulated in our office dissipated noticeably in that area.
The unit is quiet, even on its highest setting, and I like the fact that you can turn the ionizer on and off. Even though it promises to be ozone-free, I was a little wary of it.
I would recommend that you turn this unit on and calibrate it BEFORE putting it in the room you want to clean, because it sets its baseline for clean air when you turn it on. I solved this by leaving it on high all the time and recalibrating the unit occasionally to set a cleaner baseline. You don't have to run it in sensing mode anyway, so this isn't essential; you can just leave it on high, but it's cool to see the sensor pick up on odors in the air. For the first few days, every time I opened my office door and let in outside air, the sensor would turn orange or red and then gradually move back down to green as the unit cleaned the air. Yikes! Great product, and much sleeker looking than the traditional units out there.
