Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of RSVP International Onion Goggles, PinkCustomer Review: Worth Every Penny Summary: 5 Stars
There are some people for whom cutting onions is a minor inconvenience. For them, running water or cutting the onion cold or in the right direction might actually work. Then there are people like me, who are driven from the kitchen in agony when cutting onion. Whose eyes feel like they are burning out of their sockets. NO, I am not a wimp! I've given birth to 6 children for goodness sake! But I am extremely sensitive to whatever an onion omits. So when I found these onion goggles on Amazon, I knew I had to at least try them out.
Wow! They actually work! Not only am I pain free while I dice and chop onion, but I look kinda cool doing it (in a middle-aged-mom-of-6-kids kind of way!) They aren't perfect, though. The seal between your face and the lens isn't airtight, so after a few minutes I start to feel some irritation. However, by that time I am usually finishing up. I am sure that real goggle would work just as well (probably a little better) - but would mess up my makeup, leave red rings around my eyes and are a lot harder to get on. Plus, I wouldn't look nearly as cool!
I highly recommend these onion goggles!
Customer Review: Chopping onions is almost painless Summary: 5 Stars
Let me start by saying that I am EXTREMELY sensitive to onion odor (I can't even cut green onions without crying). I have to stop slicing periodically to wipe the tears, air out the room, then start again. Swimming goggles worked well, but they get foggy quickly, so you need to remove and wipe off condensation. I bought these goggles on a whim, and was pleasantly surprised. These are insulated with foam around the eye area, and fairly comfortable. Yesterday I lasted through 2.5 large onions - it irritated my nostrils and throat, but my eyes were ok (after a while though, the odor does seep past the foam). My one criticism is that the plastic is very stiff - it would create a tighter seal if it was a little softer to better hug the face. Also, these will not fit a wide face. My head measures 21.75", and glasses fit pretty snug around the temples. Overall, a great purchase - 4.5 stars.
Customer Review: Lifesaver! Summary: 5 Stars
These are GREAT, I use them all the time when I chop onions. I've even used them a few times when I just needed to shield my eyes from debris, like when changing a broken lightblub in a ceiling fan fixture. I had been putting off getting them for quite some time but I'm so glad I finally got them. I had been using a pair of sunglasses (that just happened to be tinted very dark), but aside from the fact that I almost chopped a finger off a time or two because I couldn't see what I was doing, the onion fumes went right up under the sunglasses even though they were oversized. They were better than nothing but no where nearly as great as these onion goggles. If you are putting off getting them don't, they are wonderful.
Customer Review: Works perfectly - very comfortable Summary: 5 Stars
Every year at Thanksgiving, I help prepare for a large group, which involves chopping about half a dozen large yellow onions. I tear up easily, so have tried everything suggested to me: holding a match between my teeth, rubbing my hands on stainless steel & more. Each method helped a bit, but never enough to let me finish my project without a break. These goggles worked perfectly - they fit beautifully, worked perfectly & I love them. They come in a neat little plastic magnetic pouch which is great for storage. As stated, I could not wear my glasses under the goggles, but I could see well enough for the task at hand.
Customer Review: They work, hallelujah! Summary: 5 Stars
Pros: These goggles really really do work!! I always get so irritated cutting onions, no matter which techniques I try, and the first time I put these on I had ZERO irritation. Love them. Plus, I got to get pink goggles :)
My sister also loves these goggles (in tortoiseshell pattern), and she was a HUGE onion crier...now she is fine!
Cons: I am 5'8", female, about 145 lbs, with an oval shaped face. These goggles fit perfectly but without a lot of give room. I'm wondering what someone with a larger face would do, and honestly, I don't think they would fit everyone.
