Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Braun MX2050 PowerMax 525-Watt 58-Ounce Jug BlenderCustomer Review: Delightfully Surprised Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this blender by mistake, but then was delightfully surprised. I wanted a powerful blender to crush ice and our old one was more like "scratching" ice cubes than "crushing" them. After reading a few reviews on amazon I decided this is the one to go, then hastily placed order. Minutes later, keeping reading more reviews, I started to see complaints about this blender's limited capability in crushing ice, then I thought I made a mistake and tried to cancel the order. Too late, with prime shipping option, the order was instantly placed into processing stage and no cancellation was possible to my chagrin.
Today I received the package, pulled out the blender, and instantly noticed one review complaint I had read about this blender was untrue - that the top removable cap can easily pop off during blending. No way! If you twist the cap, it actually LOCKS into place, not just sits there waiting to pop off. Anyhow, I added a handful of ice cubes, and turned on the blender at speed #1. Wow, it crushed the ice cubes into white powder with no relent. That's the kind of blender I'm looking for to make margarita and other iced drinks. I regretted the purchase only two days ago but now it turned out to be a total delightful surprise.
Customer Review: Excellent blender Summary: 5 Stars
This blender was purchased for the purpose of making smoothies. I did research and made sure I found a strong-motored blender that won't jam or have that burning metal smell when crushing ice. Consumer Reports magazine labeled this blender as a "best buy", and I completely agree with them. The glass jug is sturdy and attractive, and the motor is strong and fairly quiet. (Is there such a thing as a silent blender?) The removable piece in the top of the blender makes adding the ice (or any other harder food) to the liquid a breeze. I have used it many times, and have had no problems. (It leaked the first time I used it, but it was because I didn't see that the rubber ring was not re-inserted after the initial washing - oops!) Cleanup is fairly easy, but be careful as the blades are very sharp! A tip for cleanup is to rinse the jug with water immediately after pouring the beverage so nothing will dry and crust up on the blades, thus avoiding getting one's fingers dangerously close to the very sharp objects! As long as directions are followed for assembly and food prep, you will have this blender for a long, long time.
Customer Review: Almost perfect! Summary: 5 Stars
Powerful and not overly noisy by comparison to other blenders, the Braun is a workhorse with a 525 Watt motor providing more output than just about any other blender. The glass canister is perfect for blending hot items (such as making wing sauce) or crushing Ice.
The only weakness we have encountered is in the blade design. I would recommend getting a spare blade "just in case." They are available for around $15.00 online. We use our blender to make extra-thick protein shakes every morning, and over time the blades slipped from a "+" shape to a "x" shape. After several years of heavy use with boiling/frozen liquids, and machine washing, the plastic teeth on the bottom of the blade mount broke off. Now I have to wait for a replacement. Do yourself a favor and buy a replacement in advance.
I still give this blender five star rating. The price is less than other blenders in its class and it has a stronger motor. The heavy duty glass canister and motor make up for the blade weakness, turning a flaw into a routine maintenance item.
Customer Review: Best Blender for the money Summary: 5 Stars
This is the 5th blender i've purchased in the past 5 years. I wore out a KitchenAid, Black and Decker, and Cuisinart with heavy use, each in less than a year. The i bought a Vitamix for it's durability. Love the Vitamix, but read an article about possible leaching of chemicals from their plastic pitcher. Vitamix is changing pitcher types in response, but who knows what issues the new material might have. I decided to stick with a glass container, and bought the Braun. I am very happy with it's performance, even compared to the Vitamix. It performs not as good as the Vitamix, but comparable and much quieter. It does a good job supporting a raw foods diet. It performs much better than any blender under $100 i've tried. I wonder about durability. I've read several reviews about fragile gears. They are made of plastic, and looking at them, it's reasonable to believe they may break with heavy use. I've been using it daily for several months without problem. I figure if their is a problem, i can always go back to the Vitamix until it's repaired/replaced.
Customer Review: Das Blender Summary: 5 Stars
We bought the blender based on Consumer reports review and can say we are very pleased with the performance of the product and shipping from the vendor (Beach camera). We've made 10-15 shakes and 1lb pureed tomatoes with flawless performance. One minor caution is having to hold the top on because the power of the blender can push the lid off which has happened. Cleaning has been easy in the dishwasher. Features we mostly like are the glass carafe and dial knob and weight/ruggedness of this product. Thanks Amazon for your quick service to the military APO.
Update August 09, 2009: Still working great even with 50hz running through motor. Used mainly for shakes with ice cubes and the blades blend with ease. Use once a week. Clean up is a breeze with all parts going in the dishwasher except the rubber grommet/seal. Recommend to all customers overseas in base housing on 120v 50hz or using properly rated transformer.
