Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Pinzon 5-9-Inch Pasta Maker

Customer Review: It's worth the Price
Summary: 4 Stars

I love pasta, but the idea of making my own always filled me with a sense of fear and foreboding. I can't even make a pie crust, and my pancakes are hit-or-miss. And it's so easy to head to the nearest grocery store and pick up a package, right? This little machine made some of the best pasta I've ever had.

Understand, there is a lot of work to it. Making the dough is simple, but takes some real kneading. This machine comes with a crank handle, so you have to crank with one hand, while guiding the pasta dough in with the other, and guiding the rolled or cut pasta with your third hand. Only have two? Yeah, me, too. It's a little tricky, but worth the effort. Just don't expect it to be like a pasta robot.

This is my first pasta machine. It isn't designed for use by chefs or in a restaurant. It's a low-priced, functional gadget, made for the home chef who wants to take it up a notch, and is willing to make the effort. Don't expect perfect results the first time. Maybe not ever. The cutters didn't entirely cut through the pasta, leaving me some cleanup work to do by hand. For what I paid, it was worth it.

Customer Review: Great little machine
Summary: 4 Stars

After reading some of the reviews here I was not sure what model type of pasta maker to make. I've never tried making my own before but this little machine works great. For the price you cant really go wrong.

I havent had any problems and have used it a few times so far. I did drop the pasta cutting attachment so it doesn't turn so good anymore, but you can hardly blame this on the machine. I also tend to think that thicker cuts of pasta work better on the cutter - so i guess that is why it doesn't get 5 stars - the cutter is just so so.

However, i love making ravioli and lasagne sheets with it and they taste great. So if you want to try making pasta definitely give it a shot - it is only $25 bucks. Next time i go to buy a pasta maker i'll spend an amount on a good machine as at least i know now I can do it!

Havent had any grease, oil or rusting issues. Just don't use water to clean it and brush it down with a cloth.

Customer Review: Great for the pasta novice
Summary: 4 Stars

I am by no means a pasta expert (well, I have EATEN alot of pasta). I love to cook and wanted to try making my own pasta. I originally was goint to get the pasta maker set for my kitchen aid mixer but was turned off by the low user reviews and the high price.

When I was looking for the hand crank ones, I decided to try to find an affordable model as my starter. This Pizon was perfect for me. I was really pleased. My first try came out wonderful. I found it easy to use (even for someone who has never touched a pasta maker before). The pasta came out thin, did not stick, and was easily cut into the fettucine that I was going for.

Yes, the stilly handle did fall out and clanked onto the floor many many times. I will try another reviewers suggestion of taping it next time, or maybe a little plumbers tape on the end to give it a snugger fit. Overall, I highly recommend if this is your first try. Buy it!

Customer Review: Great tool for the kitchen
Summary: 4 Stars

Seems like a very sturdy piece, have only used it twice so far, and the only reason it didn't get 5 stars was because the handle falls out far too often. Haven't tried the duct tape idea yet, but that may be in store for the future. What's nice is that I have granite countertops and the bottom of the roller part has rubber pads that protect your surface. For the price of this, it can't be beat, especially if this is your first machine like it is mine.

Customer Review: So much easier
Summary: 4 Stars

This is so much easier than rolling out pasta with a rolling pin. A good solid product. Only negative as far as I'm concerned is that the handle can come loose when you're in a pasta making frenzy.
