Customer Review: Far superior to a bulb-style aspirator
Summary: 5 Stars

Long ago I'd been told by a parenting educator to bring home the hospital bulb's aspirator as the ones they have in hospitals are far better than the ones you can buy in stores, and that was true; we've protected my 3-year-old's hospital aspirator for, well, 3 years, and it's worked okay. But when my second kid was born, the bulb we got from the hospital was far inferior, and I couldn't find one in stores that was any better. Searching led me to this pigeon aspirator, and it is a VAST improvement over the bulb -- I'll be buying a second one for the older kid and tossing the 3-year-old bulb that must be pretty horribly disgusting inside by now.

Major improvements over the bulb:
- the shape of the tip is flared so that you don't have to insert it more than an eighth of an inch at most before it forms a pretty good seal with the baby's nostril. With the hospital bulb, it was hard not to insert it too far, especially when my baby tried to rub her nose and inevitably jammed it in farther.
- this style allows you to apply continuous suction (limited, of course, by how long you can maintain the suction with your lungs). I hated having to suck, remove the bulb, blast it out, and reinsert it every time; and was never sure whether the gurgling I would hear was new snot being sucked, or old stuff stuck inside the bulb. With this aspirator you can feel from the resistance to your suction whether you've successfully sucked up a booger or not.
- it's easy to disassemble and clean this device. I do agree with another reviewer that the part that goes in to the baby's nose should really be made of transparent plastic so you can at least get an eyeball on how clean it is.
- my baby doesn't dislike it any more than she dislikes the bulb. After a couple of days of using it, she's switched from sad crying to just petulant complaining while I use this, so maybe she doesn't hate it as much. It's hard to tell. My 3-year-old used to hate the bulb but got used to it -- I think they'll get used to anything over time.

I don't know yet what the limits are in terms of how hot I can get this thing as I clean it. Back in high school we used to clean chemistry lab glassware in hot water followed by a spray of acetone, which evaporated quickly and got it really dry really fast. But I'm concerned that the acetone would attack the plastic so haven't tried that yet. If nothing else, a periodic cleaning with alcohol or peroxide might do the trick to get it really sanitized.

Customer Review: Love the product - highly recommended
Summary: 5 Stars

This product is very effective.I am a new mom and this is the first review I write on Amazon. I just love the product and would like to recommend it.

I tried the bulb aspirator/ my little nose kit. Neither worked well. So i purchased this product after reading reviews on Amazon. When the product arrived, i realized the white part touching the nose was not transparent so I would not be able to see what came out of my baby's nose. So I was thinking to return it. But when I was frustrated because none of other aspirators worked on my baby, I reluctantly gave it a try. And i fell in love with it. It just worked perfectly.
Pros:
1. Since the bulb only touches the baby's nose (instead of sticking into it), the baby is not bothered much - he would not resist/cry/shake his head like crazy, which means it is much easier to use. Every time i was able to clear my baby's nose. I was even addicted to checking my baby's nose out and telling him " let mommy help you"
2. Some reviewers complained the tubing was short. I didn't find it a problem. I usually put my baby on the changing table and I don't feel my face was too close to my baby's face. I have to stick the bulb to my baby's nose anyway so I can't be very far away from my baby.
3. Though the white plastic is not transparent, i found it is fairly easy to see what you get out your baby's nose. You can just look into it. And it is very easy to clean. If you suck hard enough, most will get into the transparent bottle.
Cons?
Overpriced - but it is an imported product and not one you could find in the super market. It is also sold by a third party. So I guess the shipping cost is hidden in the price.
BTW:
My husband was reluctant to give it a try. He was concerned if he tries too hard, he may suck the baby's brain/ lung out. It is never a concern for me. And I don't believe he has that much power either. But my husband would only try the bulb aspirator which does not work. So some men may not try products using manpower. User be aware.

Customer Review: The best aspirator ever! Saved my life!
Summary: 5 Stars

After coming home from the hospital, I was so scared of cleaning my baby's nose using the blue nasal aspirator - that thing just didn't seem to work for those hard-to-reach, crusty debris in my baby's nose and she'd end up screaming every time I would start cleaning. I also tried other aspirators and my pediatrician even recommended those thin cotton swabs to extract the booger (which is also scary to use as a first-time mom). When I came across this product, and saw the reviews, I thought I'd give it a shot - and it didn't disappoint! The first time I used it, my baby of course cried a little since it was foreign to her, but after a few seconds, she started liking it and was calm the whole time I was using it. I couldn't believe how - with the right sucking pressure, just like using a straw - all the mucus and hardened debris were removed. Using a little saline drops helped to loosen the booger, and once I started using the aspirator, everything came out! (Sometimes, when the booger is already halfway out, I just use cotton balls/swabs to wipe it off so that I don't have to overuse the suction and overstimulate my baby.) It's also easy to clean and easy to bring along. I'm so pleased with this product and would highly recommend it to first-time moms who are afraid of cleaning their baby's nose. This product made me overcome my fear. It saved my life and my baby loves it!!!Baby Nasal Aspirator Vacuum Suction Pigeon (Made in Japan)

Customer Review: Excellent product and worth the money
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using the regular bulb nose syringe for my 13-mon old daughter. We have three of these at home, given by the hospital and the PD, and another one from Little Nose. Although my daughter is okay with these nose syringes, I think these syringes are not very effective. Many times, after using the syringe, my daughter still have stuffy nose.

Then a friend of mine recommended this product. I got this yesterday and tried it on my daughter today (she is having a cold). It cleaned my daughter's stuffy nose right away, and the tip of the suction doesn't go into her little nose. The suction strength is controlled by me. Well, it appears kind of nasty, I had to suck on the other end of the tube. But the design of the product is very good, you won't suck in the mucus to your mouth. It will go into the small bottle, and you can that happen. Once you are done, wash the whole kit with water. That's all, and the result is great since my daughter's nose is clear right away.

It looks a little expensive at first, but think about babies get sick 5-10 times a year, and it is something you will use it quite often. My daughter had one ear infection when she was 11 months because the mucus didn't get clean out as it should even with using the regular nose syringe couple times a day. Just to avoid the ear infection and reduce the need to go to PD office already make my money worth.

Customer Review: I LOVE this aspirator! Everyone w/a kid should have one!

Thing thing WORKS!

We've have had it since my son our an infant and he never really liked us poking around his nose, but it got the job done.
Now he is a toddler it is the best thing ever. He understands what it does. I stand him in front of the mirror and he lets me get rid of his stuff nose without a fuss.

Plus, it is easy to clean. The clear suction tube comes off, as does the the plastic part with 2 arms inside that sucks the snot out (it connects to the top bulb part) and then of course the clear container that catches all of that ickyness. So I haven't a clue why people say you can't clean it... it is super easy.
We also like that we can see exactly what come out of his nose. I run it under water every time so the snot doesn't dry to it.

I also like that it doesn't go "up" his nose. The fat bulb part creates the perfect suction, then just the small top is inserted into the nose. Sometimes with the blue bulb's he'd move and it would get shoved up his nose which he didn't appropriate.

I have only had the blue bulb and a worthless bulb that came with the red cross kit, so I don't have any experience with other "tools", but I like this so much I didn't see the need to get anything else.
