Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Pet Parade Dog Repeller and Training AidCustomer Review: Amazing device for door-to-door marketers Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered lots of these for my company to help protect my guys from loose and occasionally aggressive dogs we encounter in our line of work. After lots of research into various sonic repellers, whistles, etc., I decided upon the Pet Parade because of its value. For $10 a pop, I don't think we could have found anything better!
As other reviewers pointed out, there isn't much clearance space for the 9V battery, so after carefully closing the battery compartment, I wrapped each repeller (or 'Dog Phaser' as we call it) with a little bit of electric tape, so there's no risk of it popping open while in a pocket.
Obviously, something sonic like this won't work on EVERY dog. Some dogs are deaf. Or just don't hear that frequency anymore. And sometimes when a pack of dogs gang up on you, they'll pump each other up and might be more resistant to the effect.
But, 95% of the time, there IS an effect. I don't think it's painful to them--I think it just surprises them and interrupts whatever thought process has led to barking, posturing, etc.
This device has already saved one of my guys from being eaten by a huge, aggressive St. Bernard. It also quiets down uncontrolled yipping dogs so that we can actually talk to our customers. And gives confidence to my marketers who are afraid of dogs, where they can't always tell if the large dog jumping up at them is friendly or a potential problem.
I've also used it for 'no bark' training on my Chihuahua, who barks incessantly at strangers and at other people/dogs at the dog park.
What a fantastic little device for 10 bucks.
Customer Review: best $19 we ever spent Summary: 5 Stars
OMG! We have a miniature schnauzer that is 7 years old and has barked obnoxiously at everything and everyone that moves. Whenever someone comes within 20 feet of our house he barks like crazy. Whenever someone comes into our house he jumps on them barking like crazy until we convince them to pet him. Whenever we walk him he barks like crazy if anyone walks within 50 feet of us especially if they are walking their dog. A neighbor showed us a more expensive version of this item and swore that it would work with our dog too. We were very doubtful that it would have any effect on curbing our dogs behavior. As a result we looked to try a cheaper version then the $79 item our neighbor showed us. We had serious doubts it could work but had no choice with a new baby on the way but to try it. When the item from amazon.com showed up we immediately tried it out.We had a friend that our dog always barks at come over and knock on the door (something that would normally send our dog into a psychotic frenzy). As soon as our dog started his tirade we gave him a the command "Diago quite" (no effect of course) and then quickly followed with the push of the new devices button. Then for the first time every our 7 year old family member Diago with a confused look on his face was silent. We needed to do this consistently over the following week. Surprisingly enough we have from time to time been caught off guard not knowing where we last placed the device and had a knock on the door. He barked one small bark and quickly listened when we told him to quite. This was the best $19 we ever spent.
Customer Review: OMG! This is unbelievable! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this Dog Repeller for the training aid part. When I got it home from the post office and put a battery in it, I still lacked faith because of the last two purchases I'd made of similar products that didn't work at all. I was in my bedroom and my cat was at her food bowl. I thought, what the heck, it won't work anyway and aimed it at her and just touched the button for a nanosecond. HOLY COW! My poor cat's hair all stood up, and she zipped under the bed!!! I didn't hear a thing! The reason I bought this device was mostly for my Yorkillion pup. He's loud and shrill and will start barking a steady stream without taking time to inhale air and just keeps it up non-stop until he gets what he wants. If he wants out of his crate, he doesn't care if it's 4:00 in the morning. If we're eating, he wants OUR food, not his dog food that's sitting right in front of him. We haven't had a peaceful meal in about nine months.
Well, I know it's not supposed to work through walls, and you're supposed to point the device directly at the dog. My short burst was through a wall and about ten feet away pointed in another direction and, for some odd reason, Pookey barely made a peep throughout dinner!!! I am SO IMPRESSED!!! My daughter and I tried to figure out what else it could have been besides the repeller, but there's just no other explanation! My sanity may be saved! I'll see how it works on training to come, sit, stay, lie down, roll over, etc.
Customer Review: Worked for me Summary: 5 Stars
My service dog had developed a habit of becoming distracted when working, and, although I work with a good dog trainer, we'd failed to bring the problem under control. My trainer suggested an electronic dog collar (similar to a bark collar), but I decided to try this first. Since I hadn't used an electronic device like this before, I purchased this item and a dog whistle at the same time, so that I could compare their effectiveness. The dog whistle is something I've used before, and always found it good to get a dog's attention if the dog is close, and not too interested in something else. But the dog can quickly become used to it, and often learns to ignore the whistle.
The first time I used this device, it worked like magic. My dog, which had been staring at another dog across the street, whirled around and looked in my direction. He moved so fast, it was like he'd been stung by a bee. It has worked so well that I only had to use it a few times to "fix" his distraction problem.
This product worked well for me. However, I don't think it would work very well for "fixing" a neighbor's barking dog because it's effectiveness fell off quickly over distance. Close up, however, it works very well. (If you can get within 10-15 feet of the dog, it should do the trick.) My dog reacted so strongly to the device that I felt sorry for him, causing me to use it sparingly, which is probably the best way to use any training device.
Customer Review: Works like a charm Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the item because my new neighbors think we're in a war zone and feel the need to own a pit bull. The dog and my small kids are separated by a fence, but the dog would approach the fence and bark at my kids and I whenever we were in the yard. I took the device and placed it in my pocket; I then went into the yard and instructed the dog to stop barking. The dog obviously did not stop so I pressed the device button from my pocket and immediately the dog turned her head to the side and let out a soft yelp and went towards her owner's back door. The sound it produces is not heard by humans. If the dog was just lying around and not barking I would leave it alone, only if the dog would approach the fence and bark at the kids then I would I activate the device. I did this a few times when the kids and I were in the back. Now when we're in the back the dog might bark if surprised by our presence, but she is more cautious about approaching the fence and no longer behaves aggressively or leans on the fence barking. I still hear the dog occasionally barking at noises or people when were not in the back, and that's fine. I don't wish to break the animal just train her to not behave aggressively towards her neighbors. Now a verbal command from me is enough to cause the dog to stop barking and move away from the fence. If your product doesn't work immediately exchange it, as it might be faulty. Best money I ever spent, Works perfectly.
