Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Pet Parade Dog Repeller and Training Aid

Customer Review: YES! It works! Yay! We finally get a peaceful summer. No more neighbor's dog barking.
Summary: 5 Stars

This product worked AWESOME. In fact, it worked at a 15 foot radius the other day, when my neighbor's crazy Chow came to the backyard fence and started barking (as always), at my husband, as he started to do yard work. I went inside the house and grabbed my new Pet Parade Dog Repeller, then pressed the button, while standing at my garage door. The dog was about 15-20 feet away, in its backyard, however heard the sound clearly. As soon as I pressed the button, the dog backed up, looked confused, then I pressed the button one more time and the dog took off, back inside the dog door. Wow and Yay!!! This item worked great. I took a gamble to buy it, with the reviews being mixed, but I am so tired of talking to neighbors about their barking dogs. I have already got into 2 arguments, with two different neighbors about their barking dogs. Now that summer is approaching and the windows are always open, I do not want to hear my neighbor's barking dog all day, all night. I have already yelled 'shut up' out the window this spring, loud enough for the neighbor to hear. She obviously heard me, because she took the dog inside. I don't want to have to tell a neighbor's dog, every day to stop barking. It's not my dog, it's not my problem. Now that I have my little gadget, as soon as a neighbor's dog starts to bark, I am ready set to go. However, ever since I used this product, I have yet to hear the dog bark. Some dogs are that smart, they figure it out quickly (Barking Leads to = Loud Piercing Noise = No More Barking). No more yelling out the window, for me. I cannot even say how happy I am. We get a peaceful summer, in the back yard and when the windows are open, we no longer have to hear bark, bark, bark for hours and hours. On a final note: to the dog owners that leave their dog(s) outside, for their neighbors to hear... "Shame on them". Their actions are disrespectful to neighbors. Why should bad dog owner's neighbors have to hear dog barking, all day, all night, or even for 30 minutes any time? To those bad neighbors.....'Karma', well...."what goes around, comes around". One day, they'll move into a house/apt and have some crazy neighbor with crazy dogs that bug the heck out of them.

P.S. The instruction say that an Alkaline 9 volt battery can only be used, any other type of battery could ruin the device. Also, I wouldn't go with a cheap battery, buy the best kind, if you want this item to work.

Update: Now that winter is approaching, the next door neighbor's dog is back to barking, because I haven't been outside to use this item in months. Really didn't need to. The dog got the picture the first few times. Long story short, after about 10 minutes of hearing the dog bark nonstop, late at night, I opened the window and pressed the button, then the dog ran back inside, again. This little gadget is still working great.

Customer Review: Great beyond belief so far
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a sweet goofy mutt named Buford who loves to ride in the car. He also likes to bark ferociously at pedestrians, cyclists, joggers, traffic cones, large shrubberies, the clicking noise the turn signal makes...you get the idea. I've tried bark breaker shock collars, keeping him leashed while driving (not recommended), a "Thundershirt," even sedatives (Acepromazine) to no avail.

Today we went for our first ride with this product and things started as usual...noisy. I yelled "no barks!" and immediately hit the button briefly. That happened maybe three times early on in the ride. From then on all I had to say was "no barks!" and hold the device up. Toward the end of the ride, just "no barks!" did it without holding up the device. We rode past people walking dogs (always a big hit with Buford) and he whined, but he didn't bark. Not once! Two bicyclists, one motorcyclist, a mom walking her baby. Silence. I am still in awe.

My fear is that Buford will adapt to this and eventually start ignoring it, but even one day's quiet in the car is worth the purchase price, and Buford seemed to enjoy himself just as much as usual (head out the window, slobber flying, big grin). In my situation, this is an unbelievably outstanding product at a ridiculously cheap price. I just ordered a second one so I'd have a backup in case they get hard to find later. I'll update in a few weeks.

Other reviewers are right that it is inaudible to humans (at least to humans in their 50s who spent a lot of time listening to loud music back in the day) and the battery cover won't go on after you put in a 9V battery. Don't even try. I used a rubber band to hold the battery in place, no big deal. The instructions are also very explicit that you must use an alkaline 9V battery, so users of rechargeables may have to break down and buy one.

UPDATE 5/5/10 - unbelievably, it gets better. I don't have to use it AT ALL. I just have to say "no barks!" and hold it up when I see someone or something that normally provokes an out of control barking frenzy. I could probably hold up my wallet (which is also a black rectangle) and get the same results. I can't believe this. More later.

Customer Review: Would DEFINATELY Recommend!

This item works as advertised, I will add that the individuals who gave it bad reviews probably were not using it properly.
Dogs learn by positive and negative reinforcement. In my situation, A neighbor to the rear has two dogs, when she goes out she leaves the dogs in the back yard, like a lot of dogs who are used to being inside, they would bark non-stop when locked out of the house. Unfortunately, our bedroom and family room both are at the rear of the house, and we found this quite annoying as it would not only disturb us but wake our sleeping baby. After receiving the Dog Repeller, I went to the back yard, the dogs were out and as usual barking. I said "quite!" in a commanding voice, and at the same time activated the repeller. The dogs continued barking for a minute or so, I heard on dog shaking it's head, as I'm sure anyone with dogs has seen them do. When the barking stopped, I let off the button. I stayed out there for about 20 minutes, every time the dogs would bark, even the slightest bark, I would activate the device, as soon as the barking ceased, I would stop. Of course dogs are like people, some are more intelligent than others, and it took awhile for the younger dog to figure it out. But eventually the barking stopped. About 30 minutes later they started up again. I went outside, repeated the process, this time it only took about 5 minutes to achieve the desired result. SILENCE! There were a few more barking instances this first night, again, I would say "quite!" and press the button, the next time only took about a minute, the following only seconds.
then silence all night. Yes the dogs were learning. The following evening, the dogs were out again, barking again, I repeated the process, first time took about a minute, next time less, third time the charm, no more barking that night, following night, one barking incident, after that only random short barks, but the non stop barking has ceased. Don't expect instant results, but in 2 to 3 days you should have relative peace restored! I hope this helps you!

Customer Review: Fantastic product!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this very inexpensive device, figured I didn't have much to loose by spending fifteen dollars, (product and S+H). To my delight and surprise it worked great, amazingly fantastic, after just a few minutes. My three dogs are small-medium size, about ten pounds each. We took the dogs out in the backyard and of course they started yapping. After just a few clicks and the firm command "Quiet", it immediately caught all three of the dogs' attention, then I followed with a quick and gentle praise. They all just looked at me and honestly had a puzzled look on their faces. Just a few more clicks after that and they caught on. After that when they barked I just gave the command "Quiet" and guess what, they were QUIET!!! Then my husband and I took them in the house and repeated the same, only took two clicks. The dogs were not scared, anxious or traumatized in any way, just seemed puzzled. In fact, I think they are calmer and less anxious now by not barking at every little noise they hear or at anyone or any other dog who walks by our house. By being calmer now I think they will bark to alert us when it is really neccessary rather than just barking at random.
Very few times have I ever bought something so inexpenisve, that was so simple, had results so quickly and has made such a HUGE difference in quality of life. Don't know if this works with all dogs, but it sure worked with our noisy bunch. I could hush one dog at a time from barking but to hush them ALL at the same time was next to impossible, they would just provoke and frenzy each other. We spent the evening in the backyard in peace and quiet and they just ran around and played, without the needless barking. The only thing about this device that my husband complained about is that it did not work on me...... oh well honey, guess you can't have it all!

Customer Review: My "mute button" for my dog!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Before buying anything expensive and fancy to stop your dog or other dogs from barking, try this one first. I bought this product specifically for training/stopping my dog from barking. My dog pretty much barks at anything and everything. It was embarrassing and everybody is pretty much scared of my 14 pound mutt. Living in the city, it became a two person job to take our dog out to go potty; one as a lookout to check that nobody and nothing is around, and the other to hold the dog. We have tried a lot of things to stop him from barking. I was very skeptical at first since this product is sooo inexpensive and we've tried many things that were much more expensive that did not work. I figured, $10 bucks...what the heck. We tried it out the same day it came. As soon as he started barking we would say "quiet" and when he didn't(like usual), I pushed the button once and he stopped barking right away. I couldn't believe it! I did not hear another peep from him the whole time we were outside. I've had this product for about a month now and it still works. We now call it the "mute button". Now, the simple "quiet" command works most of the time to make him stop barking. We still bring it with us during walks and potty breaks for the times that he forgets or something around is too irresistible. When we do use it, we make sure that as soon as he stops barking he gets lots of praises and a treat for positive reinforcement.
I know that this might not work for all breeds but it worked for me! I sure hope that it works for you! For 10 bucks, it was well worth it!
The only con I have for this product is that the 9 volt battery(not included) does not fit well in its slot. You can't close the battery slot so I had to jerry-rig it by taping it shut. This doesn't bother me though as long as it works:)
