Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Packmate 95000 Vacu-Seal Starter Kit with Handheld Vacuum Sealer and Bags

Customer Review: Handi-Vac and WHERE to get bags - as of 08/2010
Summary: 5 Stars

Handi-Vac, the wheel, sliced bread... the world's three best inventions - in that order. I - LOVE - THIS - THING!!

Sadly, Reynolds discontinued marketing this unit and left many of us "holding the bag" - actually with NO bags.

I found and have received and used bags from Home Shopping Network website, hsn dot com. Search for "Debbie Meyer Bags" are a nearly identical replacement - 1 gal. and 1 qt. size. They work as good or better than the original and are reasonably priced.

Summary: 5 Stars

There was 3 bags with the vacum pump, the other pump i got few years ago had 2 boxs quart bags, 1 box of gallon bags, each had 50 bags per box!!!!! And then can't get more bags!!! merrill dodge

Customer Review: Very Pleasantly Surprised!
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this after my disastrous experience with the Frisper which I purchased from Sharper Image (and which they graciously accepted as a return).

I wasn't expecting anything for this unit for the price. But I was wrong. Wow! It worked really well and produced a really good vacuum to get all the air out. It is inexpensive, effective, and easy to use - you can see everything that's going on so there are no mysteries. Another plus is that you can stand it up as you seal, so if you have any liquids in there, they won't spill out all over the place.

I had a couple of bags that didn't seal. I think one of them was defective or I wasn't able to get a complete seal on the bag. Another one contained cubes of demera sugar and didn't hold the vacuum. I think maybe that's because, between the strong vacuum and the thinness of the bag, the sugar crystals actually punctured the bag.

Which brings me to the one criticism I have (thus 4 stars instead of 5). The bags are designed to be reusable because they are kind of expensive after all. (But that's good for the environment too.) I wish they could be made a little thicker so as to be more durable. I'm always worried about breaking them. The one good thing I can say about the Frisper is that its bags are really thick industrial strength things. In fact., when I returned it, I kept the extra bags I purchased.

All in all this unit is a great value and I highly recommend it.
