Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of PUR CR900Z 9-Cup PitcherCustomer Review: Container Kept Leaking Summary: 2 StarsI don't know what it was but the container would keep leaking around the bottom. The company was nice enough to give me another one free but that one too leaked. I honestly think it a design flaw.
The water seemed to be tasty enough, definitely better than Brita filters, but had to be changed too often for my taste. The best thing you could do is by a reverse osmosis filter for the home. I only have to change mine once a year and the water tastes great as I have technologically verified as more pure than the tap.
Customer Review: Water filtered tastes very good Summary: 5 StarsWater it filtered tastes better than that from a different brand I owned before. I think both how the container constructed and materials used make it very clean even in a very wet environment, i.e. I never see any growth in edges of the container as saw with my previous one. I also like how compact it looks.
Customer Review: I'm an optimist...but the pitcher is still half-empty Summary: 1 StarsLeaked after a few weeks... the worst part is, PUR said it's not covered under warranty because it's a "wear and tear" item. It sits on the counter, I have no idea what wear and tear that causes on the internal gasket. They kept me going in circles and after the 30 day satisfaction guarantee expired, they then told me I could have returned it within the first 30 days but now it's too late. For a product based on the razor/razor-blade business model (I'm sure the real money for them is made from the filters, not the pitchers), this is a horrible way for them to deal with the situation. Oh, and I had another one crack by itself due to temperature differences (it was in the fridge). When it works, the water is great, but it needs to stay contained in the container.
Customer Review: Works great for me Summary: 4 StarsHad read a review in Consumer Reports that the Brita pitcher was number one but the Pur pitcher was a close second and its filter did the best job of filtering water. Well filtered water was what I was looking for. I browsed reviews of this pitcher on amazon before purchase. I was concerned with the reports of leaking but noticed most complaints of leaks were made some time back. In the end great tasting cold water with no leaks!
Customer Review: Fantastic Water, beats out my old Brita filter... Summary: 5 StarsI'm a college student in New York City, so getting clean water is always something that requires a good deal of effort. Tap water is disgusting here, and although I used a Brita filter for almost two years, I'd never really given a thought to the Pur brand until my old Brita broke.
First and foremost, I have to say... I LOVE the look of this thing. The design adds a definite aesthetic appeal to the pitcher; additionally, I loved how the "filter" pitcher and the "storage" pitcher were not evenly sized, like in most Brita filters. That is, the amount of water being filtered at any one time was much, much smaller than the amount of water that was already filtered. This means that you won't be refilling the pitcher with every use.
Secondly, the water quality. One thing I did not like about the Brita pitchers were the fact that it left a decidedly "bitter" aftertaste in my mouth. With this one, the water simply tastes so _pure_, no pun intended. Although I grew up on well water in Virginia, this honestly is some of the best water I've ever had. I didn't really buy into a lot of the hype that Pur was worse or better than Brita, but having had both side by side, I can honestly say that Pur wins out.
Additionally, the pitcher is made of very sturdy plastic, which means you won't be replacing this thing for a long time (only had it for a month or two, so can't say for sure). Another quirky thing that really irked me about the Brita pitches was the fact that the water filter wasn't really locked into the base, so if you were draining the pitcher, the water filter would constantly pop out. Pur's filters lock in with a twist, so you know they'll never pop out.
If you're deciding on a water pitcher for dorms or home, look no further... this one's capacity makes it a winner in my book!
