Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of PUR CR-6000C 2-Stage Oval Water Pitcher with LED Indicator

Customer Review: Pur Pitcher with LED- A perfect water filter pitcher!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this water filter pitcher to replace a Brita Pitcher after I learned that Brita filters don't filter out any microbes or pharmaceuticals, but only chlorine, etc. The design is great. Unlike my previous Brita filterBRITA Water Filtration System Kit 1 Pitcher Vintage Model (Large Capacity) plus 2 Fliters this one consists of three easy to clean parts, the pitcher, the basin, and the lid. When you pour from the pitcher, the LED flashes, indicating the status of the filter. It's not measuring anything when you pour, pouring simply activates the LED and tells you how much time has passed since you set the timer, indicating its state as working or not. Though it may filter a tad slower than the Brita filter, the time difference is not significant, and the fact that it removes 96% of pharmaceuticals, and microbial cysts makes it well worth it. If you enjoy the convenience of having an LED to remind you when it's time to change filters, I would definitely recommend this model. If you don't mind using the stickers that come with the filters to remind you when to change, or have enough confidence in your memory to do without either, I would recommend saving the money and buying one of these models: PUR CR-6000 2 Stage Oval Water Pitcher or PUR Water Pitcher with Bonus Trial-Size Samples

Customer Review: Great taste, more filling.
Summary: 5 Stars

The 2-stage filter produces water that tastes so good, I've stopped drinking bottled water (at home, anyway). As a result I find myself filling the pitcher several times a day, much more often than I filled my Brita pitcher.

The functional design of the pitcher, however, could easily be better. Its pour spout is open to the air, while Brita's is covered, leaving the water exposed to dust, as well as to odors in the fridge. It's the equivalent of leaving a bottle of water uncapped all day or longer.

In addition, removing the top in order to add water requires more effort than it should; whoever designed it doesn't seem to have considered that the top must be separated from the filtration chamber. (For that purpose I've developed a technique where I pull the chamber up with my left hand while my right thumb releases the top from it.)

The LED light on top of the lid is activated by pouring, simply by the tilt of the pitcher. It's supposed to measure the amount of water you pour so you know when to get a new filter. If you pour one glass at a time, this will probably give you an accurate measurement. However, if you pour fractions of a glass, or potfulls, or if you tilt the lid when you remove it, it becomes a not very useful gimmick.

Despite the issues with the pitcher, which I hope someone at PUR takes seriously, the quality of the water makes this a product I'd recommend.

Customer Review: its pretty and does a great job
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been drinking bottled water for the past 12 years due to illness. It has just become to much for me to struggle with the weight of the bottles since I moved to a third floor apartment. I have also had faucet filters in the past and i never liked them, and i have had the brita pitcher and didnt like the shape or color. The Pur is perfect. i love the shape and the color. i even like the taste of the water. i didnt think that was possible as i am very loyal to my brand of bottled water. i realize some are complaining about a slow flow. in the beginning the flow was fast but as i kept using it the flow got slower. thats OK, its only normal. so long as when i pour it it pours out quickly. others have complained about the lid. The lid can be a pain to open at first. but all you need to do is put your thumb between the handle top and the edge of the lid and it opens easily. i have it about a month now and the flow is just starting to slow down a bit. the indicator light is still green so i know my filter is still good. i would say i have about a month left on the filter. I see no indications of stress breakage and hope that it stays that way. will update this review if it dosnt, also i pick it up by the handle and so far no problems. i am very happy with this product. i fill it at least twice a day. i use it to make coffee and drink straight. and to cook small meals like mashed potatoes or rice.

Customer Review: Great water filter
Summary: 5 Stars

For several years, I used Pur's faucet mounted filter. When I moved into a new house, the kitchen sink's faucet wasn't compatible with it, so I looked around for a good pitcher to filter my water instead. I chose Pur because I know that Pur's water tastes good and their filters take out all kinds of junk. I also found that Brita's reviews were mixed. I wish that Pur made a 3-stage filter for their pitchers like they do for their faucet mounts, but I am happy with what I have. I have had this pitcher for over 2 years with no problems. It is a trade off from the faucet mount - I have to wait a couple of minutes for my water to filter, but my water is always nice and cold. I like the LED to remind me when it's time to change the filter, even though I never do it right away. I read on many Brita reviews that little black pieces of carbon from the filter find their way into people's glasses, but I don't have this problem with my Pur pitcher. Very rarely, I find one or 2 little black specs in the bottom of my glass. The biggest con to this product is that when I change the filter, the water tastes bad for the first couple of pitchers. I soak the new filter like the directions say, but I also fill the pitcher, let it filter, then dump it out 2 times each time I put a new filter in. After that the water tastes fine.

Customer Review: No more bottled water..
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a reversed osmosis system at home and have not bought bottled water for home use for some time. However, at work I had to either buy bottled water or carry it from home. This is getting old. I know, tap water is perfectly safe but I can't stand the smell and sometimes, sediment. Just pour tap water into a clear glass and hold it up the light and you know what I am talking about.

Well, problem's solved. I used this water filter the first time today and can tell you that it tasted just as good as my water from home. Now I can just keep a container or a big glass here and drink this filtered water. I usually drink over 60 oz. of water a day at work, so this will definitely help. Because of the weight, I can ony carry one 32 oz. bottle in my briefcase so don't have enough for the day.

Other people have problem with the handle, I will see if it happens with mine.

After a week: Yes, the lid is not easy to open. Hit or miss. May be there some instruction on how to get the lid off, but I don't see it. It is not extremely difficult, but it is annoying. I still like this water filter. It tastes great.
