Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of PUR CR-6000 7-Cup Water Filtration PitcherCustomer Review: Great Taste, Less Filling! Summary: 4 Stars
For many years I've been using Brita. My Brita pitcher is pretty old so I was actually a little worried about BPA and that led me to researching water filter systems. Turns out that both Brita and Pur are BPA free but the Pur system was winning in tastes tests. After having the filter for a week now I can tell you that the water really does taste better.
The Pitcher:
The system is remarkable similar to the brita. You have a separate filter that pops into the pitcher. However the pitcher design isn't perfect. You need to really make sure the filter sits tight and in the proper location. I needed to twist mine till I felt it slide in. If you don't do this, you'll see unfiltered water run down the sides of the filter casing. This isn't good. The second issue is the top of the pitcher. Brita has a nice little flip that allows you to fill the pitcher without removing the lid. Pur doesn't have this. So as far as pitchers go, Brita is better.
The Water:
However the pitcher is secondary to the water. Here the water shines, it really does taste a lot better than the Brita and is night and day better than my town's water. The fact that we have a double filtration system does seem to make a very noticeable difference.
Overall:
I went in sceptical and was pleasantly surprised; Pur has converted me to their system. Now if they can get their pitchers designed better this would easily be a 5 star product
Customer Review: Filters 2x the impurities from water than Brita! Summary: 4 Stars
Let me start off by saying that I can taste the difference of water from different sources very easily. I have lived off of bottled water for the past few years and consider it the absolute best but now want to save money by filtering my own. I started off with pretty much the same product but from Brita. After getting the Brita I immediately determined that it was just producing decently purified tap water but still did not like the taste compared to what i was used to. I went to PUR's website and Brita's website and compared. I figured out that the PUR filter removed 2x the amount of different impurities from water. It was then just a no brainer to get the PUR. I got it and i love it! In a blind test i would have a hard time being able to tell the difference between the two. As far as how long it takes to filter the water, Yes, it takes longer than the Brita filters but it is filtering 2x more impurities out and it is reasonable unlike how others seem to make it not. You will need to give it about 15-20 minutes to get a decent cup of water. Just keep it filled and you will not find yourself waiting for a glass. I will update if the unit has any issues but so far there are none!
Customer Review: Does the job Summary: 4 Stars
I couldn't decide between the Brita Slim Pitcher and the Pur Oval, so bought one of each. And that's not as frivolous as it sounds, because I wanted two anyway so there would always be a cold one ready in the fridge. Both of them seem to filter the water just fine. The Brita top stays on better, but the handle has sharper edges and is less comfortable to hold, especially when it's full. Although I've noticed the little black specks that others have objected to, in our case they stay in the top section and never end up in the glass, so they don't bother us. The Pur has a nicer, rounded handle, but if you're not careful the top has a tendency to fall off, dumping water all over the shelf. No worries, though, because if you just make sure to use two hands and hold the top securely, which is very easy to do, it stays where it belongs and all is well. So, bottom line, I would give maybe a slight edge to the Pur, but either one delivers good-tasting water with a minimum of fuss.
Customer Review: No cracks yet Summary: 4 Stars
Ever since moving into a big city and bereft of a car, I can no longer purchase water by the bulk... gallon jugs and stacks of water bottles are much to heavy to carry for blocks on end. The PUR water filtration device saves me from this predicament. But that is not the only thing it saves:
1. Saves money - I can use a filter and drink as much water as my heart and blood and other bodily functions desire for two months.
2. Saves environment - No more plastic bottles in the landfill.
3. Saves time - No market trips just to buy water. No endless trips to the trash disposal to discard plastic bottles.
On top of this, the water tastes fine. You may want to pair this with a Klean Kanteen (whatever it is called) for endless water pleasures.
Note: My pitcher has not cracked yet after several months of use. I hope it never does. Your mileage may vary.
Customer Review: Good tasting water.. Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this pitcher and a "stainless steel" water bottle, but the bottle wasn't anything like what was advertised, so Amazon removed the bottle from their website and gave me a refund.
But, the pitcher does deliver great filtered water. My wife receives free Dasani purified water at work, but prefers the water filtered by this pitcher. So, she fills those empty bottles with "our" water and carries them to work or when she is out shopping.
I'm a big coffee drinker, and using the water from this pitcher makes the coffee taste much better and less acidic.
Now, if I could just get a good promotional price on replacement filters, the deal would be more than perfect.
