I have never been a fan of tap water, instead opting to buy bottled or refill those huge gallon jugs at water stores. In college, my roommate had a Brita filter that she used to filter tap water.. and ugh. It still tasted like tap water.
Now that I live on my own in a new city with no car, the prospect of lugging gallons of water from the store to my apartment seemed less than appealing. So I finally decided that it was time to suck it up and get a water filter, or die from dehydration.
I have to say, I'm very pleased with this filter. Unlike the Brita, there is no tap water aftertaste, just pure clean delicious water. The filter is big enough to not need to refill for a day or so, yet fits perfectly in the fridge.
Filters are good for one to two months, depending on how heavily you use it. About a month and a half after I got it, I noticed that the filtering had slowed down considerably. While it isn't as fast as it was before (I haven't changed the filter out of laziness, and wanting to get my full two months' worth) the water is still delicious and clean tasting.

I first used a Pur pitcher. Then, because its filters are expensive I switched to a Brita pitcher. Because the water through a Pur filter tastes better, my kids protested against this switch - they don't mind money. But, to me, money matters. So we continued to use Brita settling for less tasty water. However, when I moved over to Houston, TX, from Berkeley, CA, Brita didn't do well. The Houston water through a Brita filter didn't taste good, at least to us. We can't drink bad-tasting water on any account. So I decided to use Pur again in spite of the high cost. I ordered from Amazon this dispenser with a Stage 2 filter- a new invention, because when I used Pur five years ago Pur didn't have it. My purchase of it resolved our water taste issue perfectly. The water through a stage 2 filter tastes real nice and fresh. And the dispenser is much more convenient than a pitcher. Just pull the tap toward you, then you get fresh water real nice to drink. And you don't need to lift up a water-filled heavy pitcher. I strongly recommend buying a dispenser rather than a pitcher.

Let me first answer a question many people might have about this product... Does it make tap water taste better? YES !!! I am a college student, and I do not drink tap water because I was raised on bottled water delivered to our home. I don't care how clean tap water is, I won't drink it because I do not like the taste. I thought buying jugs of water would be the answer to good water. You can do that, but using this PUR filter saves money in the long run. The water filters from the top into the bottom faster than you might think. It is very easy to clean, and it is very easy to change the filter. Since I am the only one using the this thing, the filter cartridge lasts me at least 2 or 3 months before needing replacement, and I only have to refill it once every other day since it has a larger capacity than a pitcher filter. I also like the spigot at the bottom, it is well built, and has NEVER leaked and I have owned it for almost a year now. It is a very simple, convenient way to have cold, great tasting water without taking up a lot of precious time.Customer Review: Water tastes like water again!

I purchased this product about a month ago and have been thrilled with it. The water here is nasty and we had been buying cases of bottles of water. The expense and the waste made us rethink our ways. I researched and found that this product was highly regarded. It came to us in 1 day (a pleasant and unexpected surprise) and was easy to put together. The water that comes out of it is wonderful! It tastes like nothing, which to me is how water should taste, and there is no aftertaste. The only problem we had was that we weren't pushing it far enough back in the refrigerator and the racks on the door hit the spout, pushed it backward and caused water to leak through my refrigerator and onto my kitchen floor. That was easily fixed. I also purchased a package of 3 replacement filters. The total came to $46.00. I got free shipping by signing up for AmazonPrime (1 month free trial) and $30.00 back by applying for and using an Amazon.com credit card for purchase. I am definitely happy with this water dispenser. Before we bought this, I would always drink bottled water and get into arguments with the hubby over not drinking tap water. We live on a Navy Base and the water is safe to drink but the taste was gross left an unpleasant aftertaste. After receiving this last week, I could definitely taste the difference in the water. I even got the husband to admit it was better than the tap.
That said, I am a little disappointed in Amazon. They are selling it right now for $25.00 with free shipping. When I bought it two weeks ago, I thought I was getting a great deal because it was the Deal of the Day at $22.99. $22.99 is not enough for free shipping so I had to buy a book to cancel out the cost of the shipping. Why pay for shipping when you can buy something for the same price? Apparently, I won't be shopping any more Deal of the Days because I only set out to buy this dispenser and ended up spending more money. If I had just waited till this week, I would have, in actuality, spent less for it.
