Our water comes from a well. It's good water - no bacteria - but, coming from the earth, while being reasonably clean, it's not exactly 'pure'. We have a filter in the basement but, since it's our kids who drink it, we used to have a faucet filter as well. Some 6 months ago we decided that the faucet filters were more trouble than their worth so we switched to this unit.
WE WILL NEVER GO BACK :)
To summarize the good things about this implement:
- It holds A LOT of water. Not so sure how much but it should be more than 2 gallons on a full charge.
- It looks cool. It really does. It's designed and colored to convey 'freshness' and 'coolness'.
- Unlike what other reviewers experienced, I NEVER sensed anything 'chemical' about the water's smell of taste. It is possible that it depends of the quality of the water you pour in.
- The filters are NOT expensive. We are at the second filter after almost 6 months of use and you can get a filter for about $6 if you buy a three-pack.
- It lets your faucet operate the way it's supposed to. No faucet disfigurement or constraints from a faucet-attached filter.
I can't think of any major 'minuses'. If you hate faucet-attached filters but you'd still like extra clean-fresh water for drinking or cooking or tea and coffee brewing, this is what you need.

I exercise daily and drink at least 10-12 cups of water a day, which translates into lots of money and wasted bottles. This Pur dispenser absolutely changed my life because now I can drink all the CLEAN water I want without feeling money-conscious or health-conscious or environmentally conscious. The water tastes just like bottled-water...CLEAN! I simply fill it with water fountain water each night and I'll have more than enough to sustain me through the next day. My skin is fantastic, my digestion is very smooth, and I feel clean from the inside-out. To all those college students out there, please get one of these. It will fit inside your little fridge too! The pitchers might work if you don't drink as much, but this dispenser really saves time and effort as far as refills go. If you're not a college student, I would recommend getting this for someone as a present. It can only do good. Also, I've heard that Brita dispensers can grow mold because there is always standing water (poor engineering). With Pur, mold is not a problem because the dispenser is at the very bottom, meaning you can get all the water out if you want. Also, I've done my research on filtration quality prior to buying, and Pur is definitely as good- or even better than Brita. Definitely worth your money!

I reasearched a lot of water filter jugs before deciding on the PUR Ultimate Water Dispenser.
It comes with filter, and is very easy to assemble - the jub is in two parts - the base unit which captures the filtered water, and has a two-stage tap built in. The tap can be pushed halfway for control, or clicks in position if you are filling a large container. The upper part of the main unit is the tap water reservoir.
The unit is relatively tall, but fits comfortably under a standard sink tap. When the reservoir is full of water it is a little heavy, but that's what you get for wanting greater water capacity.
The water volume is great which means not having to refill as often.
My fridge isn't huge, but this fits snugly on the top shelf - it takes up exactly the full depth of the fridge shelf with the tap hanging nicely over the edge of the shelf. The width is just a few inches (around 5 inches).
So capacity is great, the water tastes excellent - I hadn't realised how much 'taste' my tap water had, until I compared it to the filtered water.
It seems quite robust, and the filters are availebl through Amazon at under $30 for 3.
Two friends have already purchased this based on seeing/trying mine.
Couldn't be happer with it.

Held off three months before scribing this. First impressions may be wrong impressions. Second, shipping issues aren't product performance. And there weren't any here. The product performance exceeds expectations. Hometown water is municipal well water. Not bad really but not to die for or from either. So we were a bottled water clan. Gallons, quarts, liters, half liters, you get the picture. Buy the water, clutter the landfill, worry about the plastic leachate etc. Well, most of that is resolved here. Yes, this is a plastic dispenser but my friends and acquaintences in the medical and water purification business all agree this plastic doesn't leach into the water. Others have commented on the PUR filters and water quality and the taste exceeds many national filtered water brands I pass in the shopping aisles every week. I secretly take pleasure at the money I don't spend on all these jugs and bottles now. I have faithfully followed the manufacturers recommendations on filter replaceent and the severe taste critics living here under the same roof (daughters) unanimously agree that it passes their discerning palates for refreshment and nose for clarity. When I stopped and looked at the amount of money we were spending to buy bottled water because of the taste of the tap water (San Diego) I was shocked. I have used Brita filters before, but it seemed like there would always be black flakes (charcoal?) floating around in the pitcher and the taste of the water was never any better than straight from the tap. I saw all the positive reviews about PUR water filters and thought that I should give them a try before settling on spending all the money on bottled water. I think that the PUR water filter works great. It removes almost all of the off taste associated with the tap water, and I have yet to see any filter material floating around in the water. Some reviewers complain that this unit filters too slowly, but I don't see how that could be since the capacity is so large that you would have to not be paying attention to the water level to be caught off guard with no water. Or maybe they drink a gallon at a time. It takes no more than 15 minutes for this unit to filter enough water to fill the basin. I find it takes longer for my fridge to cool the water than for the filter to clean the water. I like it a lot and it is ~1/6 the cost of bottled water.
