Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of PUR 18 Cup Dispenser with One Pitcher Filter DS-1800Z

Customer Review: Spend money once on this, not on bottled water
Summary: 5 Stars

I basically only drink water so needless to say, I was spending a ton on those huge poland spring 1,000 gallon jugs that I would need to puchase, and lug into my home fairly often. When I would run out and not be able to run to the store, I would have to resort to (ew) tap water. So after reading the reviews I purchased this large PUR water dispenser. It is slim and looks sleek and neat in my fridge, with the handy spigot for east dispensing.

Originally it was going to be my "back up" when I ran out of my beloved Poland Spring. But eventually, I stopped the lugging of the Poland Spring and switched totally for PUR. I drink it straight, use it for ice cube trays, cappucino maker, coffee maker, and even for the cat :)

Does the water come out as fresh ans the poland spring? No, you will never get filterer/purified water that does. But, for a water snob like myself I am converterd to the PUR water dispenser.

Customer Review: Buy It!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've increased my water intake over 200% since buying this filter. I've always teased my friends that have a $5k reverse osmosis system and didn't first get their water tested by the county and my Sister also has a filtration system, their water is pretty good (before quite bad, very iron-y). So I've been around filtration but grew up with my folks' well and that was the best water, ever! Since urban sprawl encroached on my parent's property it became necessary to find something for them, they are on a fixed income and don't have the money to spend on an extravagant system. I bought this to test it for myself and have bought them one as well. I really love this, I leave it on the counter and fill it - I have no issues with the time it takes to filter, it goes very very fast in my house! I have sensitive teeth and room temperature is perfect for me, still cold but not painful. I couldn't imagine not having this system, really.

Customer Review: 2 Years and Going Strong
Summary: 5 Stars

I've owned my Pur dispenser for two years now. I certainly recommend it as a cost saving device. Our city water tastes terrible, but I'm too frugal to spend $1 per bottle at the store [and throw all of those empty bottles in the landfill!]. I only have to replace the filters twice a year. My total cost for about a gallon of filtered water per day for the last two years is $2.50 per month, including the dispenser.

I am notoriously clumsy, and I've dropped the lid a few times but aside from a few minor scratches my dispenser looks the same as the day I bought it. The plastic hasn't discolored. When I purchased it I was certain the lever would break within the year but the spring is still tightly wound and it is leakproof.

The flavor of the water is far superior to many bottled water brands, which seem slightly bitter to me. One can find less expensive filters online. I strongly recommend this product.

Customer Review: Brita Beater
Summary: 5 Stars

I have used the Brita Ultramax dispenser for the past 4 years and the whole time it leaked from the nozzle and around the base where the nozzle is attached.
This seems put together much better. It has the same capacity, but is taller and more narrow so it takes up less useable space, which is nice.

Another plus, you can see the water level in the upper reservoir without opening the lid.

The water tastes just as good as the Brita, I actually think it tastes even better with the PUR... I live in Oregon, and I think the tap water is probably pretty good to start with.

With Brita I always had to throw out the first couple of fills after replacing the filter; the PUR manual did not indicate this was needed so I just drank it right away and found no after taste at all. Less fuss is good. Also no more charcoal bits lying on the bottom of the container - the filter seems to work better.

Customer Review: Well worth the investment!
Summary: 5 Stars

At first, I was a little surprised at the amount of cash I was going to have to pay for this filter. But my husband and I were moving to a part of the former Soviet Union, and we had no idea what could be lurking in the water there. After 2 weeks of being here, and using this filter, I truly say I love it! We have had no problems with leaking, black specks in the water or anything. The size is wonderful. I use it to make tea and coffee with, and basically on any food that will not be boiled. My husband was brave enough to try the water from the tap (the stuff the nationals don't even drink!) and then tried the purified version. What a difference!

I did do a bit of research before buying. I was going to buy a Brita, but after many reviews from people who weren't very happy with it, I went with Pur. I'm very glad I did. I have NO complaints at all.

Thank you Pur for making a wonderful product!
