Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of PUR 18 Cup Dispenser with One Pitcher Filter DS-1800Z

Customer Review: Pur water, wouldn't be without this dispenser!
Summary: 5 Stars

Amazon tells me I bought this in April of 2006, so I've had this dispenser for over 4 years. It's still working beautifully. I use the filtered water in cooking, making coffee and tea, and for drinking, of course. Honestly, I don't know how I managed before I had it, since I don't have a built-in water filter, and suspect the maintenance for that would be more than this. Its parts have gone into the dishwasher for a short cycle every time I change out the filter. Loaded with care, they do fine there.

If your dispenser opening gets dirty between filters, or you are a tad germophobic like me, you can just use a container that will fit over it from underneath (I use a thin-walled coffee mug), filled with scalding water, and immerse the opening for a few seconds. Then use the scalding cup of water to pour over the lever itself to clean it.

Only wish the Pur 2-stage filters were cheaper here on Amazon.

Customer Review: I've been converted!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am not a water drinker, even from a bottle (unless it is Essentia, but that's another story). The only time I drank water was when it was included with my coffee or my pepsi. Then my sister moved in with me and she started buying bottled water to make coffee with, etc. After a few months, I realized we were spending a lot of money on bottled water (by the gallon as well as the smaller individual bottles) and what a money saver it would be to have a filter system. Thus the decision to by the Pur Water Dispenser. I needed something large enough so that we didn't have to keep filling it every few minutes, and it does a fantastic job on our city water. No chlorine taste, no iron taste. It did at first have a plastic smell and taste due to the container being new, but after a few rinses, that taste subsided. It does take some time for the water to filter through, so be patient. But it is well worth it. If I could afford it, I would get two.

Customer Review: Love it! Easy to use and tastes much better than Brita
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this dispenser for about a month, and I love it! Its slim design makes it easy for me to find room in my crowded fridge, and it holds quite a bit of water. Best of all, it tastes great!

I have a Brita pitcher, but I never used it; I find that Brita has a weird taste. So I decided to try Pur. Originally, I was looking for a pitcher, but I read that Pur pitchers are not very durable. So I purchased this dispenser.

The water from this dispenser tastes great; no weird taste like the Brita. And it's so easy to use! All you have to do to get water is push the front tab down; no need to take a pitcher out of the fridge and put it back. With the taste and ease of this dispenser, I'm finding I'm drinking more water than I did when using the Brita or bottled water. My fiance, a Brita user, has even been using my Pur dispenser instead, for the same reasons.

I would highly recommend this to anyone!

Customer Review: We have 2, and use them constantly!
Summary: 5 Stars

My fiance and I have two of these, and we have to refill them almost every day. They have held up well. We had them before we lived together, and since we both love them we kept both and put them side by side in the fridge so we'd always have plenty of water. The water in our area (Baltimore) tastes pretty gross if you just drink it straight, but with this filter it tastes like mountain spring water! The container is large enough to hold a decent amount of water (even for us), but is narrow and fits nicely in the fridge. The little dispenser tab is nice too, because you can hold it if you like or you can push it down so that it keeps going and you don't have to hold it. You have to tilt the container to get all the water out, but the water level has to be down below half an inch before you have to do that (meaning you should have filled the container before that). These are really superb, and we both drink a lot more water because of them!

Customer Review: Excellent!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm very pleased with this product. I'm saving SO MUCH MONEY now that I don't have to buy gallon water bottles anymore. I'm also saving energy due to not having to carry so much stuff from the grocery store. Unfortunately I can't even cook with my tap water so I had to use bottled water for everything but a shower and laundry - I would have if I could have though. This product is a life-saver to me because the water actually tastes WAY better than the bottled water. Seems the bottled water needs to be filtered thru this as well. Too bad that I didn't realize this is what I needed a long time ago. You don't even need to do a "taste test" to realize this product is awesome -- all you need is the "smell test" and you'll be convinced. I've never tasted my smelly tap water but the smell test was gross. I did do the taste test with the bottled water and the bottled water tastes totally awful compared to this fresh pure water. So refreshing! :)
