Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of PUR 18 Cup Dispenser with One Pitcher Filter DS-1800Z

Customer Review: It was so nice I bought it twice...
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great water filter and it gets plenty of use in my household. If anything I could say "I wish it held more water," (I drink 3+ litres of water a day and it seems that I am always filling the darned thing up) - but that would be an unreasonable request. Who would want a dispenser so large that it would be unwieldy to carry to the refrigerator? No one - not even me. So I bought a second one so that one of them is always full! This dispenser is slim so that I can easily fit two side by side in my refrigerator. (Can't have too much of a good thing!) And this filter/dispenser is definitely good - it has a large fill "basket" and the 2 stage filter produces water that is completely taste and odor free. I could easily tell the difference in my drinking water! Lastly, the filters (with usage indicators) are long-lasting. I have filled my first dispenser twice a day for 1 1/2 months and it still hasn't reached the half way point. Very impressive results! Highly recommend.

Customer Review: Best filter I have found
Summary: 5 Stars

I had the bigger Pur Dispenser when I lived in Las Vegas and loved it to death. Being in the military I recently moved to South Korea, where the water is a nice dark brown coming from the tap. Yum Yum. I picked up the Pur Pitcher and the water from it is absolutly purfect. But with my need of more water all the time (and I leave my Pur Pitcher at work now) I picked up the 2-Stage dispenser. By far better than lugging bottled water and it even seems to taste better than bottled, not to mention the money I save with this filter. I couldn't be happier...it will filter mud into pure crystal clear water. Good stuff, highly recommend this filter.

Add on : I have had this filter for a little over a year now.......and I know it filters out a lot of junk due to the fact that I have to clean out the unfiltered tray about once a month because a layer of Mud forms in the bottom (Yeah, mud!) So I am using this filter in extreme conditions, and it is doing GREAT!!!!!

Customer Review: Nice water filtration system
Summary: 5 Stars

I decided to get this instead of a faucet mounted filter because it allows you to keep the water chilled in the fridge. It has plenty of capacity to make a pitcher of kool-aid or iced tea without having to refill the pitcher half-way, (something I always had to do with the smaller Brita pitcher).

I had a cheaper Brita pitcher before this, but was displeased with the carbon that comes out of the filters, (I would soak them in water as recommended). The carbon then seemed to cause leaks around the filter. This one doesn't do that. The filters also have an O-ring where Brita does not, which would provide a better seal keeping the unfiltered water from the filtered.

It is true a R/O system does a far superior job of filtering water, but you have to permanently install it. This is a downside if you are living in an apartment or renting a house.

This is a good substitute for a R/O system. I would recommend this over other filtering pitchers.

Customer Review: Great
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw some pretty whiny reviews here, but decided to get it anyways and judge for myself.

I'm very glad I did.

It holds quite a bit of water and yes, it does take 1 and 1/2 fills in the top to completely fill the bottom.. but who cares? If the top was bigger than the bottom, we would have less water to drink!

It filters perfectly and it tastes amazing. The entire unit sits perfectly in my fridge, and all I have to do is slide it forward a few inches and remove the top.. I can fill it still in the fridge so I always have cold water!

I had an initial problem with leakage, which was easily fixed.. my fridge door was hitting the water lever.

I think its a great solution!

It is quality made (its not that cheap plastic..) and I found the water lever to be very sturdy and well made.

I ordered one for my mother as a gift.

Easy way to get ice cold water!

Customer Review: Space saving, cost saver and wonderful taste
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had one of these filters for more than 3 years finally replaced it because it started dripping slowly. I use this constantly and generally refill it on a nightly basis. I love the taste and the efficiency of this unit.
Some have mentioned that the filtration can slow down after a while, but I found that making sure that the filter is wet (even occasionally resoaking) makes a huge difference. I love the shape, because it uses space in a packed fridge efficiently and makes access easy.
The only problem I have had was occaisional leaking, but I figured out that this was because I did not put the unit all the way back in the fridge and the shelves on the door pushed the lever just enough to cause a slow leak.
I actually bought one for a friend who swore by "spring water" and she has converted. I have never had any problems with a "plastic taste" or mold. This has been much more reliable than the faucet dispenser I had previously.
