I got interested in an electonic wine opener and started looking at some moderately expensive models. But as I read the reviews, this inexpensive Oster product kept being mentioned. And it was usually mentioned as being superior to the higher priced models. So I went ahead and ordered a few, thinking if I liked them they would make good gifts.
And indeed this is "the little engine that could." It effortly removes all corks, including the plastic ones. It works no matter the size of the bottle (at least in all the bottles I have tried). And then it conveniently spits out the cork. Each of the people I have given this opener as a gift has raved about it.
In sum, I highly recommend this product. It not only does what it is supposed to do, it is a conversation piece at parties as well!

I have read most of the reviews and I am beginning to suspect that there may be an inherent flaw in the design/execution. Some are blissfully happy, while others are totally disappointed, with very little in between.
My observations:
1. Keep it fully charged.
2. Make sure you center it over the bottle neck before you press the button to open.
3. If it fails twice in a row it may have an inherent defect. Ask for a replacement.
4. There is a plastic ring at the mouth of the opener, which recedes into the tube if slighly pressed upwards. Make sure it does not stick, because it turns the opener off once the cork is out of the bottle and reaches the upper limit of its travel inside the opener.
I have not had a single case of a stuck cork, or split/broken one. I always press the opener down as the screw starts spinning, which centeres it on the cork. Make sure you hold the bottom of the bottle, or it will spin with he screw. I for one have found this product most satisfactory.

I've had an Oster electric wine-bottle opener for several years and needed a unique gift for a wine drinking friend, so found this on line at a very reasonable price and bought two! (There is a newer model which uses more counter space, so I preferred this model.) I can now have an extra one on hand for another gift. I read some of the reviews on it and was surprised to see people complaining about theirs - perhaps they didn't use them properly. You place the corkscrew (centered) on the cork, hold the bottle with one hand and then push the button on the unit until it stops automatically. You then take the unit off the bottle and push the button in the other direction until the cork comes off the corkscrew. Quite simple. I've never had a problem with mine and know several people who have one and also have never had a problem with theirs. I used to be a bartender and wish I'd had one at the bar - would have made wine bottle opening sooooo much simpler!Customer Review: Awesome Wine Bottle Opener

I gave this to my boyfriend three years ago (almost to the day, it was a Valentines Day present) and it's still going strong! It was a fabulous gift idea and a handy tool to have around the house to boot. We live together now, and I think I use this more than he does. I could not tell you how many bottles over the years this thing has opened. It's showing no signs of wear or slowing down.
This thing really holds a charge too, we have not had it plugged-in in months and are still opening wine bottles with it. I don't get broken corks, or bits of cork floating in my wine glass any longer! Plus, I don't have to struggle getting the cork out of wine bottles like I did when I used a traditional corkscrew or that prong thing. It's obviously a bit pricier than some manual wine bottle openers, but this thing lasts! Do yourself a favor and invest in a good electric wine bottle opener.

My girlfriend loves her daily glass of wine, but having suffered a stroke that left her with use of only one arm, some simple daily tasks became almost impossible, i.e. opening a bottle of her favorite wine. The Oster 4207 Electric Wine Opener was virtually a godsend! She can operate the opener with just one hand and effortlessly remove the cork. No more struggling with manual openers! The product worked perfectly right out of the box (after the initial charge period) and has performed flawlessly in the months we have used it.
