Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oster 4207 Electric Wine-Bottle Opener

Customer Review: By far the best valued wine-bottle opener
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought one of these from Amazon last Christmas for my wife. It is incredibly easy to use, both the foil opener and the corkscrew. We consistently get compliments for it, and at least 6 friends and family members have purchased this exact model after seeing it work at our house. I FULLY recommend this to anyone: the charge lasts a long time, its far quieter than I expected, and is quick and easy to use. Takes about 6 seconds to take the cork off (by simply holding one direction of the button), and about the same to remove the cork from the opener (by holding the other). I plan on purchasing at least 2 more this year to give as gifts.

The only reason someone should buy an automatic opener other than this one is if you buy one of the expensive vacuum removers, if you don't want to poke the corkscrew hole in the cork (for hobbies/re-use/etc). Unless you have that specific need, buy this opener.
After re-reading this part, I should note that this opener doesn't break the cork into pieces or anything, it just inserts the corkscrew into one end of the cork in order to pull it out. I've opened at least 50 bottles of wine with this, not a single piece of cork has broken off into the bottle.Oster 4207 Electric Wine-Bottle Opener

Customer Review: Amazing, efficient, wonderful wine opener
Summary: 5 Stars

Almost a year ago, a Realtor friend of mine, Mike Washburn, held an open house. This was one of the door prizes. My background is in engineering, so I'm skeptical and not easily impressed. This struck me as an infomercial gimic and I wasn't the least interested in trying it! We open at least two or three bottles of wine a week and have some nice hand-operated corkscrews. (Some of the corkscrews may have cost more than this!) Well, Mike left this fine door prize on my desk. So, being a good friend, I took it home and plugged it in. Much to our surprise, we *love* it! We've used nothing else ever since we tried it. We even throw it in the picnic basket because it's so easy to use! (Thanks, Mike!) To use it, just hold it against the wine bottle and press the down arrow. The corkscrew spirals down into the cork. Keep holding it and the cork will get drawn up into the opener. To retrieve the cork, just press the up arrow. We've opened well over 50 bottles so far and still going strong. (We make our own wine, so we do open a lot!) It has always pulled out the cork, first time, every time. Even old corks that you might expect to have to baby out, come right out. Additionally, this takes less than half the time of a manual corkscrew and makes the owner look like an expert! ;^) (Thanks, Mike!)--Larry

Customer Review: Powerful, reliable, handy

We have been using our Oster 4207 for more than a year. Still works great. It has opened everything and lots of them. It has come close to stalling on some super hard plastic corks so I use a manual puller sometimes on those just-in-case to protect my Oster. It charges quickly on the charging stand but the one drawback is that if you have to keep the stand plugged in to have it ready when you need it. It loses charge after a week or two if unplugged.
Because of this we bought the $120 Peugeot Electric Wine bottle opener (currently only at Williams Sonoma) that doesn't need a charging stand. I thought this would mean I could plug it in and run it at full power even if it was low on charge... GONG.. nope the Peugot still needs to have a full charge and it has half the torque of the Oster even though you could buy FIVE Osters for that price. We tried them both on the same bottles. The Peugot couldn't even pull out corks that Oster pulled and we had re-inserted. The Oster has pulled every cork we have tried. The Peugeot stalled more than half the time and then you have to work for half an hour to get it out of the bottle. We have purchased at least 8 Osters for gifts. All our friends are winos too. You can't go wrong for twenty bucks.

Customer Review: Bought as a Gift, Then I Became Jealous of the Recipient!
Summary: 5 Stars

A waiter's corkscrew is a thing of beauty. It's economical design is both sleek and, dare I say it, sexy! No switches, no buttons. It has a built in knife blade to cut the foil and the handle can be decorated in wood, metal or some type of exotic material. It's a practical toy that a guy can really get in to.

So why did I buy this gadget? A large, somewhat clunky device that needs to be charged up before one can use it. Well... not everyone likes using a waiter's corkscrew. It fact, some find it difficult to use. It's all too easy to break the cork in two (with lots of cork-stuff floating in your wine) if you do not use just the right technique.

I bought this for a special friend who had trouble using all of the other wine openers that I bought her. She LOVED this one. It is the only opener that she will use now. I tried it several times and still stuck to my trusty waiter's. Then we had a party and I had to open a dozen of bottles of wine. I used her Oster and I decided that I needed one for myself, but only for emergencies.

Customer Review: Must have if you drink wine!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this at a store for the first time about 3 years ago. LOVED IT! Then I bought if for a couple as a gift 2 years ago, they LOVED IT! I then bought it for my mother around the same time, she LOVED IT! Then I bought it for my bf and cousin just a month ago and guess what? THEY LOVE IT! This is the best gift to give or receive. Opening bottles is a breeze. All you do is charge it, place it on top of a bottle, push the bottom and within 10-15 secs, you have a freshly opened bottle of wine! It could not be easier!!! For someone who has bought this product periodically over a 3 year time span, the product has remained the same dependable opener as if it was from the first purchase. I really am thinking on buying a few more to keep if mine should ever go. I would hate to think they would stop making such a wonderful product. Thanks Oster!!!
***12/30 UPDATE*** - We just recently bought another one to give as a Secret Santa gift where the max was $25/person. Got it for $15 here on Amazon! Another satisfied recipient! :)
