Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oster 4207 Electric Wine-Bottle Opener

Customer Review: A Hail Mary" that connected brilliantly
Summary: 5 Stars

My son always tries to find something interesting for my various obsessions on my birthday, and, since I'm not much of a gadget lover, my techie son often comes up with presents that look great but don't really work that well in practice. This time he found a wonderful present that works very well indeed.

We've used our version on 60 bottles, cork and artificial, some as old as 40 years and a bit brittle. Every single cork came out cleanly and without a bit of trouble. It won't work for champagne bottles, of course, and if the cork was really in bad shape, I would use my wine steward's helper instead.

But for the great run of wine bottles, this device worked brilliantly for me. It is much, much easier than any corkscrew I've ever used, and I'm sure I've opened well over ten thousand wine bottles over the years, using a variety of openers.

The buttons were initially counter intuitive to me. I soon learned to seat the device carefully and tightly over the top of the bottle and press the button down until the cork pops out or is easy to lift out. When the cork is out of the bottle, press the button "up" which will lower the cork off the screw.

The cork screw is made of excellent metal; it doesn't appear to be replaceable, but it can be sharpened with a small file. There is an excellent foil cutter included, which mounts nicely in the back of the unit. Finally, it looks much more expensive than it is, so it will make a great gift to some of my wine loving friends.

I'm a great believer in screwcaps for wine, but my wine cellar still holds a preponderence of corked bottles (unfortunately in both sense of that word). I'm very grateful for this gift that makes opening wine bottles simple, easy and fun.

Customer Review: Works as described!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had several wine openers in which you had to manually screw into the cork, and then you pull the handles (using some muscles) to pull the cork out. This was working for me until I severely hurt my wrist skiing. When I tried to use the manual openers, it was hard and painful.

I read a lot of reviews on Amazon and decided to go with this one. It arrived extremely fast and after one day of charging, I was ready to use. I removed the cover over the cork with the supplied cutter, and placed the opener over the cork. It worked as described although it took about 20 secs for the screw to be fully into the cork, and once that's done, the cork is free from the bottle. You use the reverse to remove the cork from the unit. I have used it several times and it never failed. The only nitpick I have is that when you place the opener over the cork, and hit forward (or whatever you want to call it to drive the screw into the cork), it takes a few seconds for it to get into the cork and during that few seconds, the unit may move a little bit. If you have a firm grip, should be no problem. After that, as the screw goes into the cork, it pulls the opener down until it reaches the opening of the bottle and then after a feel more seconds, it's done!! I promptly stored all of the other openers and I have ordered 5 more of these openers as Christmas gifts. I'm going to provide 2 bottle of wines from V Sattui winery here in Napa with the opener so they can enjoy the next day. I would highly recommend this item as I have encountered no problems at this time. I hope that 5 years down the line the unit is working as it is today but only time will tell.

Customer Review: how do i love thee? let me count the corks.
Summary: 5 Stars

We have used this nifty helper daily for more than a year and a half, and are still thankful every time we use it. (We used to use a clunky manual angel wing wine opener which I had to pull so hard to get a cork out, I almost knocked my front teeth out a couple of times when it finally released).

The opener itself is only 1 and 7/8 inches in diameter -- making it fit easily into your hand -- and it has a soft rubber material on it which makes it easy to keep a hold of. A good sized toggle switch makes it easy to use: toggle down to lower the corkscrew into the cork and continue to hold down until it brings it back up, then toggle up to spin the cork out of the unit.

Sitting in its base, this opener measures about 11 and 3/4 inches high. The base measures about 4 inches wide by 4 and 1/2 inches deep. There is a nice foil cutter included which stores in the back of the base... very convenient. After many uses, it still cuts foil easily.

3 TIPS FOR YOU:
1) MAKE SURE THE OPENER IS ALIGNED STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN before you go into the cork/bottle neck to avoid busting the cork up or drilling into the glass. 2) REMOVE THE CORK AFTER EACH PULL so that you don't forget a cork inside and try to use the unit the next time... things might get jammed in there if so. 3) We've found that this opener struggles a bit with some of the new rubber corks. Some of them don't budge easily and we don't want to burn the motor out trying, so we still have a manual opener as back-up for these rare troublemakers.

Customer Review: MY ANSWER TO AN ARTHRITIC NIGHTMARE
Summary: 5 Stars

THIS IS THE BEST PRODUCT I HAVE EVER HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO OPEN A BOTTLE OF WINE OR ANY KIND OF LIQUOR THAT HAS A STOPPER IN IT.........FOR ONE THING, I DON'T HAVE THE STRENGTH AND FOR THE OTHER, MY ARTHRITIS KEEPS ME FROM DOING IT.

THIS ITEM IS FOIL REMOVER THAT COMES WITH IT MAKES IT A SNAP TO REMOVE THE FOIL AND THEN TO REMOVE THE CORK IS INCREDIBLE........

AFTER OPENING A BOTTLE OF WINE 1 NIGHT, I PUT THE CORK BACK INTO THE BOTTLE AND PUT IT IN THE FRIDGE.......WHEN I TOOK THE BOTTLE OUT TO USE IT, THE CORK WOULDN'T COME OUT, SO I GOT OUT MY TRUSTY CORK REMOVER AND REMOVED THE SAME CORK FOR THE SECOND TIME.........

THANKS SO MUCH FOR WHOEVER HAD THIS ALSO PURCHASED THE FOUR STOPPERS, WHICH MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO BE ABLE TO KEEP A PARTIALLY EMPTY BOTTLE FRESH.

WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE, AND PLAN ON BUYING SOME FOR GIFTS.

Customer Review: Oh yah, works like "BUDDUH"! So easy, even a CAVEMAN can use it!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

If you love wine, you will TOTALLY love this gift. When I received this gift for Christmas, I thought it looked cool, but honestly was skeptic as to how well it would really work. But, once I tried it, I quickly found how EASY it is to use!!! I thought the rabbit ears corkscrew opener was really great, but it doesn't even compare to the Oster 4207. I've even demonstrated it at parties to everyone's amazement. It makes you want to keep uncorking more bottles of wine because it's also FUN to use. In seconds you have wine ready to pour (as well as an unthrashed cork - every time!) Another plus, you don't have to look for it when you need it, because it conveniently sits on the counter in its compact charger without taking up space. When it's in the charger, the dome light on top shines red. It's slick, ergonomic, modern, a cool conversation piece, very portable and ready to grab and bring to any dinner or party. And, seriously, I can't believe how low the price is!! I thought it would cost a lot more. So, I'm buying a bunch as gifts to friends n fam who also love wine. (The best gifts to give are the ones YOU would love to receive yourself.) I'm surprised I don't see this used in restaurants, yet. It really is impressive! There's only one thing wrong with the Oster 4207. There should be a WARNING label on it: "Product may cause addiction to bottle opening."
