Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oster 4093 Classic Beehive Blender, SilverCustomer Review: Used for a year and a half and it's still great! Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent blender. I haved used it to make smoothies at least once a week for a year and a half, and it's never let me down. It cuts through frozen fruit in no time flat, and makes quick work of soup, gravy, pancake batter, etc etc etc. And I love the simple switch --- just on, off, and pulse. Honestly, what does a blender need a separate "puree" and "liquify" setting for?
I have no negatives about this product per se, but I do have two cautionary notes:
(1) It's loud! This is good thing, because it means that it has a powerful motor. But fair warning to those of you who make early-morning smoothies or midnight snacks.
(2) The blade is really, really sharp. Again, this is a good thing, but it means that you need to be very careful when you're cleaning it.
The negative reviews that I've seen here are mostly about sudden failures (switch stopped working, etc.). I'm sure that things do break occasionally, as with any appliance, but I can't really speak to these issues. I can say that after 18 months, I've never had any mechanical problems no matter what I was blending.
Bottom line: For price and performance, this blender is unbeatable!
Customer Review: Works great & Very reliable Summary: 5 Stars
I have used this for over one year. It has a lot of power. It blends everything with no problem, even frozen fruits and ice. I make smoothies with it all the time. It has been completely reliable. I have had no problems with it. The two speed switch is fine. I don't need more speeds. The chrome plated collar that goes under the jug is made of plastic, but that isn't a problem. It has taken no damage. The lid is made out of a somewhat soft rubbery plastic, but that is no problem either. Nothing has broken or been damaged at all. I think of this blender as my "old reliable" blender. It does what you need it to every day. Just plug it in and go.
It is not that loud either. I don't know why so many people are complaining about the noise. It's no louder than other blenders in my opinion. Power tools are louder than this blender. The only thing I don't like about the sound is that it sounds very rough, as if it needs oiling. But that doesn't seem to be any problem with regards to its function.
Oh yeah, and the blender looks good too. I love the classic 50's beehive look. I wouldn't want any other blender.
Customer Review: The Circular Saw That Makes Smoothies Summary: 5 Stars
This thing is hugely powerful, and LOUD, but then again it's got 600 watts, so what do you expect? I got this to replace my old Hamilton Beach 350 watt unit, which was good, but hard to keep clean and had a missing top.
If you were to hypothetically put your hand in there and flip the switch, this blender would obliterate your limb in seconds. It's kinda scary. But it makes great smoothies!
The metal drive parts are excellent, as plastic components are about as stupid as can be for high-stress applications like blending, and a lot of blenders have plastic-on-plastic drive mechanisms. The base is all metal, but the rim around the part where you set the pitcher into the drive mechanism is chrome-colored plastic, which is annoying. Why not make the whole damn thing out of the same piece of metal and just forge it as one steel unit? Hell if I know. The rest of the unit looks really durable, however.
My blender was NOT chrome, by the way, but rather brushed steel, so beware. It's still great, and easier to prevent fingerprints on anyway.
BTW, you can get this now at Wal-Mart for $56.
Customer Review: This Blender Rules! Summary: 5 Stars
I was drawn to this blender because of it's vintage looks, the beehive chrome base is right out of the 50's. Of course, since I am addicted to smoothies and all other blenders I've owned haven't lasted very long (or plain couldn't chop through the ice!), I was skeptical about purchasing a blender on looks alone. After reading all the reviews though, it seemed like this could be the blender I've been searching for. As soon as it arrived, I washed it and put it on the counter and stared at it, yes it really is a good looking piece! In the morning, I threw in all my smoothie fixin's and piled in the ice - still a little skeptical, but very hopeful. I couldn't believe how quickly the ice was chopped and then smoothed into a nice puree! Thinking it may have been a fluke, I made another smoothie that evening. Same thing happened. Yes! Finally a blender that works! I couldn't be happier and have found that now that it's so effortless to make my smoothies, I have them even more often than before. Plus, there's no need to shove this blender into the pantry, it stays on the counter in all it's beautiful glory. This blender rules!
Customer Review: Absolutely the BEST Blender Summary: 5 Stars
I adore this blender. It cuts through ice like a dream, slices FROZEN fruit in moments and sends me to smoothie heaven every single morning. I've had my blender for well over a year and have yet to encounter any problems. I was originally going to purchase a Vitamix but my husband 'fell-in-lust' with the retro-styling of this blender and I decided to give it a try.
The lid? Fits perfectly and doesn't leak even when I make a filled-to-the-brim smoothie with ice and frozen fruit.
The blades? SHARP little suckers, watch your fingers when rinsing! I found a great deal on a replacement ice-chopper, so I purchased, but still haven't had to change.
I rinse it after every use and have had NO problems what-so-ever with rust. (?)
I've recently purchased the:
Blend and Go cup - Adore it!
Food Processor attachment - Adore it!
If you're looking for a quiet / meek blender, this isn't the one for you. This is an over-the-top dream blender with two functions. Pulse and On. It sounds like it has a jet engine in it and every time I hear it, my mouth waters!
