Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oster 4093 Classic Beehive Blender, Silver

Customer Review: sometimes, simpler is better
Summary: 5 Stars

Having looked at several different brands and styles of blenders, we decided on the old standby Oster. I remember growing up with my mom making killer milkshakes in our old Oster, and was surprised when they still sold this model. But then after awhile it dawned on me that perhaps there is a reason why this model has been around so long.
For one thing, how many times does a person need 15 different settings for a blender? to do what? Frappe? Blend? Fold? ... whats the difference? When I use a blender, its mainly to blend something... fast. This Blender does that very well. You get your choice of a full blast that's constant, or you can pulse it with the very handy toggle switch. That's it. The essence of simplicity.
And it works on just about anything. The kids wanted some pineapple shake....not a problem. This thing will make a tough pineapple into a tropical smoothie in a few seconds.
I've had ours for two years now and it shows no signs of wearing down or breaking.
Plus the retro styling is a blast thats a nice reminder of my not so distant past.
We're very happy with this purchase and wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. The price is hard to beat and if you feel that you really do need all those other bells and whistles, go ahead and by the cuisinart or whatever. But I'm all for getting something that does one job and does it very well.

Customer Review: Simple does it best
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this blender after a horrid experience with some Cuisianart mulit-speed blender that turned out to be a piece of ... Originally I was attracted to all the bells and whistles, but after all that leaked on the first pouring, I realized we had a problem, Houston.

After cruising the ratings here, we bought the basic, two-speed (read: go and pulse) GORGEOUS chrome beehive blender. Somehow we got the one that had the mini-jar for dressings, the food processor, and milkshake blade with chrome cannister, all for less than the Cuisinart Multi-Function Mistake. :)

This thing kicks. I've made dressings in it, and it was done with ease and they were blended well. Most importantly, I've made several batches of adult drinks involving ice, and as long as you add the ice a few cubes at a time, it turns out perfectly smooth (no ice chips hitting your teeth as you tip the glass).

I LOVE OUR OSTERIZER BEEHIVE BLENDER!!!! Simple is really all you need in a blender. If it's something that needs a bit of mixing, hit the pulse button as needed. If it's serious mixing, turn it on. In my opinion, speed 3, 6, and 9 are not required. This does it all, and looks MIGHTY fine while doing it. If only we had the counter space to leave it out.......it's SO pretty!!!!

Happy blending, anything!
Shinda

Customer Review: Fabulous U.S.A. made blender
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a well made blender. We've had this blender for about 8 years or so and has never given us any problems. The blender was first purchased at a Service Merchandise department store back when Service Merchandise was around. I think we paid about $75.00 dollars but it's paid for itself many times over.

On ocassion my sister and I will make smoothies with the Blend-N-Go cups; which is a great accessory to any Osterizer blender. We usually pack the cup with frozen fruit and then add either milk or orange juice. Usually it will take about 10-15 pulses and the smoothie is done. No more Jamba Juice smoothies for our family. We can make them just as fast and a lot cheaper at home!

We've also used the blender to puree soups and grind coffee beans and it does a superb job. It crushes ice completly for a smooth, almost Icee, Slurpee style Margarita. It's really a great machine. I highly recommend this model.

Please note: I have the exact one pictured on here. This particular model has 350 watts of power and not 500 watts like the other very similar ones available. Also, this one is made here in the U.S.A. not made in Mexico like the newer models of the Oster Beehive.

Customer Review: Perfect for Bodybuilders/Fitness People
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned this blender for 18 months. I am a competitive natural bodybuilder, and as such, I make anywhere between 4 and 8 shakes a day. I cannot attest to its use for blending solid foods or ice - the "hardest" thing I have blended in it are oats. I have used it almost exclusively for blending various powders in water/milk.

- The simple Pulse/ON switch is easy to use and requires zero brainpower - perfect for those 6:00am or middle-of-the-night shakes.

- The container is very thick and solid. I've never dropped it, but I've smacked it into plenty of stuff and it's as good as the day I bought it.

- After making anywhere between 2500 and 3500 shakes in the last 18 months, I have noticed NO decrease in power. (this blender is very loud, if that matters to you)

- The lid (which I abuse horribly) is in 95% of it's original condition (a very small crack in the lip).

Again - I'm sure blending ice/foods frequently will result in a different experience than I have had. However, for anyone who uses their blender for simple protein/carb shakes - I really doubt you can do any better than this for the price (possibly the Professional Series).

Customer Review: THE LITTLE BLENDER THAT COULD
Summary: 5 Stars

OK, it's not really small, but this classic styled blender is the one I have been searching for for years. For years I had a fancy schmancy blender with 10 different "settings"-what a joke...they JUST BLEND at different speeds (and poorly at that). After drinking smoothies and shakes with ice lumps, regardless of how long I let it run, I ditched my "designer blender" in search of a unit that performed.

I know you are thinking, how could it be so good for such a low price? Face it, you are buying a blender and that's what it does. It has a 500 hp motor that makes short work or ice or anything else in it....(smooth lump free smoothies!)and quite frankly, it has 3 settings Off, low and high. What else do you really need? Could you really tell the difference between puree and frappe on your old belnder?

This baby does the trick. Yeah it is loud, but so is a Harley, and who doesn't want one of those too? It has a cool retro look, a solid glass jar, and the jar fits easily on top of the base (unlike my old one which had to be "locked in").

Inexpensive, powerful, easy to use. What the heck else do you want? Get this belnder, you will not be sorry.
