I have the silver Oster blender (with the single switch) and broke the glass jar on my hardwood floors a few months back. At the time, I was so upset over the accident, I threw out the whole jar assembly (like a fool). Later, I found out you can purchase everything separately - right down to the rubber gasket ring. Oh well.
I missed my daily Pina Coladas so much I made it my mission to buy another blender. After searching for a bit and getting reminded how hard it was to find a good blender when I originally researched them years ago, I determined that I should keep my Oster base and just replace the glass jar assembly (with the ice crusher bit). I almost purchased the separates, but stumbled upon this set and ended up getting it. And I love it!
I was a little put off by the square jar (mine was originally round), but wow - it turns out that the square jar is really great! It makes pouring the thick drink mix into my glass so much easier. It's a little shorter than my original jar, but is just as good. Very heavy, thick glass, and it fits perfectly onto the Oster blender base just like the last one did.
I'm VERY pleased. I paid extra for the expensive blender from the get-go, and am happy with myself that I continue to invest in the original purchase and got the replacement jar set. The ice crusher bit that comes with this is phenomenal - just like the original. The top is hard plastic, not rubber like the original, but it's a moot point. You hardly use the top to do anything but stop the liquid from splattering out. So it's just as good. I chose not to get the plastic jar since I have unanswered questions on whether it is dishwasher safe over time.
I'm being more careful now with the glass jar than I was before. I store it on the ground near my extra liquor bottles while I store the blender base on the top shelf of the pantry. No more carrying the blender around while the jar is precariously balanced atop it! I have a good gash in my brazilian cherry hardwood floors from the original mishap.
Overall, this is a great deal for the package, since it's less expensive than buying the separates, and it's top quality. Fits the blender just like the original, and is of top quality. Even with an improvement in the shape of the design. Five stars.
