Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Slap ChopCustomer Review: it works but know what to expect Summary: 4 Stars
At first I had a hard time with it, but I did learn how to use it effectively and now I use it all the time. Some thoughts:
1) You have to learn how to slap it sharply. It makes all the difference. There is a learning curve here.
2) You don't get perfectly uniform dices, and having a few bigger chunks is just part of the deal...but I can live with it. I saute the uneven pieces and the food tastes just fine. Clearly it works best for mincing (the more you slap the finer the pieces), and it works best for harder, non-fibrous things like nuts and garlic and carrots
3)Remove skins of onions, garlic, apples. It works better.
4)Cleaning really is as advertised. Very easy.
5) Not the most sturdy thing, so be gentle with it (except for the slapping)
Customer Review: Not quite like Vince says it is. Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this to replace an old Pampered Chef chopper that I hated. The Slap Chop works fairly well but not as easily as Vince makes it look. He demonstrates by chopping with one finger and it just won't do that. I'm 6'4" and weigh 280 lbs and must use some force with the palm of my hand to chop through most things. When chopping onions, pieces sometimes get caught in the curve of the blades abd you must remove them. Limiting the amount of food you try to chop at one time will improve it's operation. The one really good feature is the way it pops open for cleaning. Being hard to clean was the reason I hated thee Pampered Chef model. All in all, it's a good product and works well. Vince should just give a little "wink and a nod" at the end of his demo.
Customer Review: For me, Works as Promised Summary: 4 Stars
I use Slap Chop all the time, for dicing and mincing crunchy and hard-textured foods. It has performed exactly as expected and has proven durable. For mincing garlic it is more effective than a garlic press. With fibrous ingredients (like fresh ginger) I have to slap it quite a few times to get a fine mince. It cleans up with hot running water in the kitchen sink and is ready for the next use. The numerous disparaging comments on this web site seem to me to be reviewing a different product entirely. If Amazon.com accepted half-stars I would give Slap Chop 4 and 1/2 stars.
Customer Review: Works Fine For Me Summary: 4 Stars
I've been fairly pleased with this product and haven't had the problems that many other reviewers have had. I'm not sure if they aren't using the plastic guard as this helps keep most of the food out of the blades. Even when the food does get up there, it's easy to open it up and run the blades under water to get them clean. It does feel a little cheap and flimsy but this hasn't really affected the performance. Overall I have a hard time arguing with this product for the price point of $20.
Customer Review: great gift Summary: 4 Stars
My mother, my daughter, and my brother and his wife have all seen this advertised and demonstrated and wanted one. So that was the gift I purchased on behalf of my granddaughter. They were all very excited to get one and my brother was even more excited because now, since he likes to cook, he doesn't even have to peel onions. He just gets to take out his slap chop. It's easy to clean and put back together and doesn't take up much room. It's well worth the money.
