I've owned several of this style of chopper over the years, and this one is my favorite. Well, actually... my Zyliss that was identical to this was better as this one is a little more flimsy. Both Slap Chop and the Zyliss twin are the easiest to clean because of the way they are constructed. And for the price, you should expect to replace a properly used Slap Chop about once every 2-6 years depending on frequency of use.
What is great about the Slap Chop (and the Zyliss version) is when each time you slap it, the blades make a partial rotation so that the next slap the blades hit the food in a different spot. After several slaps the blades have made a complete rotation, cutting the food quicker, and more evenly than if the blade simply went up and down in the same spot repeatedly like most other hand choppers do. Also, the blade fully retracts behind the blade shield, sweeping the chopped food off of the blade onto your cutting board. Many other hand chopper blades don't retract and the food must be swept off by hand. Very inconvenient!
I use the slap chop mainly for mincing garlic, chopping onions and chopping carrot for a salad. I've also used it for making bacon bits from cooked bacon, for chopping strawberries, hard boiled egg, making pickle relish and chopping (shelled) nuts. You could use it for mushrooms too (yuk) I imagine.
I prefer the slap chop for many applications over my electric mini food processor, because the electric processor tends to turn things into mush or puree, even while judiciously employing the pulse feature. Both tools have their place in my kitchen based on their different strengths.
