Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OneTouch Jar Opener

Customer Review: Works surprisingly well
Summary: 4 Stars

I was a little skeptical when I bought this at first, but was pleasantly surprised with how well it operates. With a good set of batteries, it's not really an issue of how well the jar is sealed, this opener has a good record of getting those lids off. What does seem to be a problem is that it cannot get a good grip on some jars with strangely shaped neck areas. If the neck is too small or too steeply sloped, the outer jaws of the machine will not find purchase and it will fail to open.

Overall it was worth buying, it's getting a lot of use, but there is still the occasional jar that it is unable to open.

Customer Review: one touch jar opener
Summary: 5 Stars

I brought this product for my elderly parents and it is great, it does what it says with no effort at all.

Customer Review: OK, but some problems
Summary: 3 Stars

This product works well, with some caveats. Although it will save twisting, if the top of the jar is sloped, like many sauce jars, the opener's grips will slip up the side, so you have to keep pushing down on it to hold the device on the jar. As others have noted, it will break if pushed, so if the jar does not open, do not try to force it. And it is not very fast. However, for the price it is useful.

Customer Review: The "No Sharp Edge" Almost Cut Finger Off!!
Summary: 1 Stars

DO NOT BUY!!! This opener opens cans from the side, allowing the lid edges to be nice and smooth. What they don't tell you is that the edge of the can is now razor sharp.

My husband opened one can and was in the process of opening another when the can opener started to fall off the 2nd can. When he reached over to grab it, his hand hit the sharp edge of the first can. It sliced the skin back all the way to the bone on his ring finger on his left hand. It took several hours for it to stop bleeding.

We had one of these wrapped up under the x'mas tree to give my 74 yo mother. Needless to say, I unwrapped it and will be returning it.

This product should be recalled, or at the very least should have a warning label on it regarding the super sharp edge this creates.

Customer Review: Junk for sale!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought two of these - both broke quickly and in the same way. The distributor knows the product has a serious design flaw and should withdraw it from the market. Instead, they critisized me for reporting the problem to Amazon.
