Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Omega J8005 Nutrition Center Single-Gear Commercial Masticating Juicer, Chrome and BlackCustomer Review: LOVE this juicer! Summary: 5 Stars
I researched juicers for months before taking the plunge. I had the money saved up for a greenstar but the ease of cleaning ultimately drove me to the Omega. The cost savings was just a bonus.
I read the review about plastic shavings getting into the juice but after seeing the machine, I realized that even if that was happening (which it doesn't), it would only take a couple revolutions and then the plastic would be shaved down to the point of not touching the metal and therefore, not getting in the juice any longer. My auger doesn't in any way touch the metal so this is certainly not a problem that is consistent with this juicer.
Yes, the only drawback is that you have to cut most produce an extra slice thinner, but you more than make up for that in your clean up time. It is a little slow compared to something like a breville, but juice comes out without much foam and nutrients intact. It takes about 10 seconds to clean the whole shebang and that in itself motivates me to juice more often.
Our daily juice looks something like: 2 carrots, 1 apple, a head of romaine, 1 cucumber, a cutting of wheatgrass, 1 zucchini, and then we end with a few sticks of celery to pull it all through. We have all types of produce in our morning juice and it handles it all like a champ.
Customer Review: love this juicer Summary: 5 Stars
First of all, I love Amazon. Never one issue after ordering over many years. And I'm very pleased with this juicer. With a 10 yr warranty, you know this company stands behind their product. I got the 8005 rather than the newer 8006 because I noticed in the reviews, some issues with the material the 8006 model auger is made from . And the only other difference was the configuration of the handle. Everything else is identical. I bought this juicer primarily to use in my Miami Beach apartment (my primary residence is in Pennsylvania). It arrived on time, and within minutes I was juicing away for myself and my family. It is simple to use, simple to clean and overall, a wonderful product. I even froze some bananas and mango chunks and put that though with the "blank" attachment...DIVINE! The bananas make a thick almost creamy dessert like ice cream. And the mango--WOW... just great. and low fat, healthy. I'm hooked. So much so that I told my husband I was going to put it in my carry-on bag and bring it back and forth---I just didn't want to leave it behind! He told me, no way---just buy another one for the house in PA. Now, that's love. can't wait to continue on my juicing journey!! Try adding some fresh ginger--just a bit--it makes a wonderfully, spicy, metabolism boosting drink!
Customer Review: Wonderful Juicer, very fun and easy to use Summary: 5 Stars
I had an 80 dollar Hamiliton Beach Juicer, it was okay, it got the job done but it was so loud and it broke after 2 years which was a year after the warranty expired. This one has a 10 year warranty which makes me feel a lot more confident in it. It rotates very slowly, about 80 rpm, and it doesn't heat juice up. It does produce a bit of foam, but the strainer will strain out any foam or pulp which takes about 20-30 seconds at most. The juice tastes better than with the Hamilton Beach, and it seems to taste a bit "richer" almost like it's less watered down (not sure if that's really the case, but that's how it seems). Also, it's really fun, because you can see the auger chew up the fruit and veggies so I enjoy using it. Clean up is no problem because the juice screen is about 90% less surface area than with the Hamilton Beach, which was a Centrifugal juicer, so it was a pain to clean up. This one clean up quickly and can be put in the dishwasher's top rack to clean it even better (don't put it on the bottom rack, i found that out with the hamilton beach's pusher and it warped, the top rack is much cooler and is made for plastics). Anyways, this one is quite awesome, I'm sure the 8003 and 8006 are just as cool too but this is the one I got, and I like it.
Customer Review: Powerful and creates tasty juices! Bonus pasta extruders! Summary: 5 Stars
I have one of the old Jack L's, Juiceman Jr. Juicer- JM1 for juicing. It is showing its long teeth and decided I would try one of the macerating juicers. Upon receiving the Omega 8500 juicer I was amazed at its heft and quality of craftsmanship. Comparing this juicer to the Juiceman Jr. is like comparing a Hyundai Excel to a Maserati Quattroporto. The quality of the Omega 8500 is hands down superior to that of the Jr.
The mechanical differences are stark, and so is the quality of the end product; the juice. With a centrifugal extractor the juice is markedly more pulpy. With a macerating (chewing) juicer such as the 8500, the juice is almost clear. It goes through several increasingly smaller screens before being put in the cup. I was amazed at how dry the discarded vegetable pieces were at the end.
The real bonus is that this kit came with a set of pasta extruders. A very nice bonus indeed. I made several vegetable based pastas and the result was fresh pasta that cannot compare to dry store-bought.
Overall a great product and highly recommended!
Customer Review: Solid machine, easy to clean, decent juice volume. Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first single auger slow juicer. My previous experience was with the (now-defunct) Twin Health twin auger juicer. So I do have something to compare it to, but I can't compare between single auger models.
Pro: Easy to clean, easy to juice with. I can use anything: Beets, carrots, celery, apples, cilantro, parsley, and chard. Build quality seems good. The extruder housing is made of plastic or polycarbonate, and is designed to bounce around. I haven't had a problem with it thus far. The machine is extremely heavy and sits solidly on the counter.
Cons: Less efficient in terms of extruding juice than a twin auger system. With 15 medium sized carrots I get about a cup and a quarter of juice. Twin juicer made about cup and three quarters. Isn't bad, but not necessarily as much volume as one would think. We'll see about the longevity of the extruder housing. I've had it about a month now with juicing at least once a week with no problems.
Would I recommend this?: Yes, especially for the sub-$300 price point. Solid machine, powerful. Makes great juice.
