So easy to use, doesn't take up lots of space, which is great for my small kitchen, and I've never had a problem with getting a seal whether it's the first or 8th time using the bags.

Customer Review: Useful, but clearly a first draft Summary: 4 Stars
I already have a Foodsaver (going on 10 years now), but since I was given this toy as a gift I figured I'd try it out, and do a comparison.
- Compared to the massive, mom-jeans styling of the Foodsaver, the Frisper is tiny - about the size of a package of hotdogs - and kawaii cute. I would have been happier if there were a way to tip it up on end for countertop storage (maybe a storage cradle, or a flat spot), but even without that it's not a hassle (I tuck it behind my Kitchenaid mixer).
- The entire unit hinges open (like a little, cute set of electronic alligator jaws). The vacuum is made by placing a (pre-sealed, ziploc-style) bag between the jaws and closing them. There's a spike (tooth?) at the front of the unit that punches a hole in the bag, then a pump sucks air out by that hole, and then a hot-ring melts a circle around the hole. Despite what other reviews have said, if you mess up a vacuum you can try again - just put the hole over the spike and close the unit again, so it will melt another circle in the same place. But it's really important to have the ziplock sealed well, or it won't work at all (my unit came with a slotted disk to help seal the bags, apparently some do and some don't).
- Because the bag is ziploc-style, and the vacuum is made in a ring, the bag doesn't get smaller every time you use it (The Foodsaver melts the edge of the bag, and you have to cut open the bag to open it). On the other hand, because the vacuum is made in a ring, as you use the bags there are more and more rounds spots where the two sides of the bag are melted together, and this is a real pain to clean around. (Why aren't they making U-shaped seals against the edge of the bag? Then you wouldn't get crud trapped behind the circle, and the machine could have a guide to put the edge of the bag against).
- The unit is on (steady green "ready" light) as soon as you plug it in. Since we don't allow vampires in our house, I keep it unplugged.
- There is a tray to catch any liquids that might come out during vac-ing. I confess the first time I took it out to wash it took me a while to figure out how to get it back together again (unlike the Foodsaver, where it's just one piece). The unit has a nice sticker under the lid explaining how to do a vac (press down, and then LET GO). I would have been much happier if some of that sticker space had been spent on a diagram explaining how to deal with the tray (since I won't be washing it every time I use the unit).
Cute and small is nice, but not sufficient to beat out the Foodsaver. The Frisper got a place in my kitchen, however, for a completely different reason: the bags. The bags are robust and, if you use the sealing disk, seal VERY well. And because the seal-and-vacuum process is a two-part process, I can buy rice and coffee beans and lentils in bulk at the natural grocery, fill up the bags right in the store, and then bring the bags home to vacuum them. Since the bags can be re-opened and resealed without becoming appreciably smaller, I can use and reseal as needed. Once the bag is empty, back to the store it goes. (I'm bringing my own grocery bags, why not these?).
For raw meat and pre-cooked meals we're still using the Foodsaver. For greener grocery shopping, it's the Frisper. Once they've worked out some more of the bugs, I may switch over altogether.
