I've been making bread for a long time; for almost 30 years in a wood-fired cookstove and now, finally,in a propane oven. I usually use an old olive oil-baked-on cookie sheet. I have replaced it with this nicely-sized baking stone to bake "artesan" breads and pizza. It does both well: breads are crusty on the outside with a moist interior and pizza is as close to those I've eaten in Italy as I can get. The stone is a bit stained, but this doesn't affect the quality of the baked product.

Whether you cook frozen pizza or make your own, the stone is the way to go. The pizza comes out evenly cooked and with a crisp crust. I was told by several friends not to wash the stone with soap, but to just brush it off and use a wet scrub pad for anything really stuck on. The more you use it and get it cured, the better it seems to work. I always put a little bit of corn meal down before the pizza. It helps with not having things stick and the pizza slides off easy.

This is a great baking stone. I'm fairly new to bread baking on a regular basis, but following Julia Child's french bread recipe with this stone, turns out so well! The first stone I received was broken on arrival, but the replacement process was easy and fast. I keep the stone in the oven at all times, and so far, no problems. I would recommend this stone for someone who will bake frequently. Next, pizza! I'm having great fun!

I bought this stone to make artisan bread, & it must heat in the oven for 20 mins. befor you put the bread on it. It stays nice & hot to give ou that crisp bottom crust. I had been using a large tile from the local home improvement store, but it broke in half after jut a few uses. It was cheap, but did not perform as well nor last a LONG TIME like this stone. Don't hesitate to buy it, you'll love it!

I have made pizza for years, using a standard cookie sheet, but this stone is wonderful for crisp crust on the outside, light and tender on the inside. WARNING! Under no circumstances should you oil your stone! I made the mistake of doing so, after reading on some internet site to "season" it first. I had to replace it before ever baking a pizza on it. Never put anything on your pizza stone but low-oil breads!
