Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Sweater Stone - 3.5X2.5"Customer Review: Fantastic! Summary: 5 StarsI tried EVERY other product on the market to save a ruined personalized towel. (I had washed the towel with a poor quality towel, which shed all over the entire GOOD towel).
This stone got every last speck of lint off of the towel, and it now looks brand new. I am so grateful, as this was a very sentimental gift.
Customer Review: Shaves too much off wool sweaters Summary: 2 StarsI used the Sweater Stone on one of my favorite navy blue sweaters that was starting to pill and fuzz up a bit. After using the stone my sweater was noticeably thinner in some areas. It was not threadbare, but you could definitely see more light through the portions I used the stone on.
Personally I've had a lot better luck with the electric shavers designed for this purpose. They are less aggressive than the Sweater Stone on delicate wools, and seem to work perfectly.
Customer Review: Great product Summary: 5 StarsI purchased several sets of flannel sheets from various different places, most of them did not begin to pill untill this year. I really hate rough sheets and tried the battery operated defuzzers on the sheets, it helped some but still not soft. So I saw the review on the sweater stone and thought I had nothing to lose by trying it. It arrived promptly and I immediately tried it out. It works. You do need to do several swipes over the sheets to remove all the pills, the results are soft cozy sheets again. The only thing is I wish it were more the size of a board eraser as you could cover more area when you use it. It does slip out of my hands and I scrape my finger pads on it, but it is worth it. To remove the pills I put the bottom sheet on and depill it and then I use a lint brush to remove the access fuzz after I determine that it is soft enough I put the top sheet on and depill it. I don't know if the sheets will pill up when I wash them as I haven't done that yet.
Customer Review: A necessity Summary: 5 StarsThese Sweater Stones are great. They don't eat holes in your clothes, they're never out of batteries, and they are extremely effective. I use one on my wool coat to take off the pills and dog hair and it works great. They last a long time. The only negative thing about them is that they give off a sulfur smell when you use them, but it dissipates quickly with no residual smell.
Customer Review: Not Perfect, but it Really Works!! Summary: 4 StarsMuch of my clothing were starting to get pills, so I was desperate to find something, anything, that would remove them- as otherwise, I would have to spend a good deal of money on a new wardrobe.
I tried peeling them off with tape, and rolling them off with lint rollers. These only removed a few superficial lints- the stubborn pills remained. I tried using a vacuum shaver. The shaver worked on some types of fabric but not others, but left holes in all of them.
Resigned to buying a new wardrobe, I brought the SWEATER STONE not really expecting anything. To my delight, it actually works!
I would not say my clothes look like new, but they look much better. Be warned, though, if your garments are full of pills, or if you are very particular in wanting to remove as many of the pills as possible, shaving with the sweater shaver can awhile. I sometimes spend a couple of hours with one very pilly shirt. But this is still far less than the time it would take to remove all these pills with my fingers (the only other method I know that really works- I also spent hours with all the other methods I describe above but they never did end up working.) Furthermore, shaving with the sweater stone leaves my garments with a fresher look than picking with my fingers as it removes a good deal of fuzz as well the pills.
A point to note however is that the SWEATER STONE is rather messy. Unlike vacuum shavers which include a collection place for the pills, and lint rollers/tape in which the pills stick to the roller/tape, the pills simply fall all over your table/floor when using this device, along with crumbled bits of the stone itself. I recommend shaving with the SWEATER STONE on top of newspapers away from fans, wind, etc. Or, be prepared to do a bit of cleaning up afterwards.
So, all in all, not a perfect product, but I am quite satisfied.
To get an even fresher look, use a lint roller or lint brush after using the sweater shaver to remove any overlying lint/fuzz that remain after using the shaver.
