When I was a student, I used to work in a restaurant where we made fresh-cut potato french fries using an industrial cutter. Since I experienced how easy it was to use such a cutter, I wanted one for my house, and I bought this product three years ago.
Pros: It is a solid, commercial grade tool. Very useful for people who make french fries on a regular basis and very easy to use. I don't think that you can break this tool, even if you tried to do that.
Cons: None. But read my notes below on the usage.
Usage:
(1) It is not easy to use this in horizontal position. If you use it only rarely, you may not want to fix it on the wall permanently. You may need one person holding down the unit while another cutting the potato in its horizontal position.
(2) Don't try to cut potato as big as the blade. It can get stuck, especially, if you are using the smaller blade.
(3) It is not a pretty tool for a nice kitchen. Remember, it is a commercial grade tool. So you may have to fix it in a place not too visible to your guests.
(4) The tool must be fixed to the wall studs using several screws. Don't try to fix it to the drywall using drywall anchors because it can get pulled off from the wall when you use it. It happened to me on the second day.
I have fixed the French Fry Cutter in my basement. First I fixed a 2'x2' plywood on the wall and then I fixed the cutter on the plywood. Without the plywood base, I could not fix it on the wall studs.
The potato I use are of medium size; the big ones get stuck half-way through cutting. I make great fries, at least, every other day now. Never had any problems with this unit.
