This works well for white rice. Cooks it in about 15 minutes. It turns out well. I think I've only tried it with Jasmine rice and brown rice, though. I'm not sure how it works with the other kinds I have, now. I'll have to pull it out again and use it more. I stopped using it as much when I discovered the joys of baking jasmine rice in a convection bake toaster oven (just add twice as much water as rice and cook for 45 minutes; you can add seasonings while it cooks and it tastes much better than any other way I've done rice). Anyway, back to this product. It works quite well. My raving about baked rice isn't meant to demean this product. This product works quite well. Rinse 3 cups of rice in the basket with cold tap water; pour the rinsed rice in the bucket; pour 4 and ½ cups of distilled or purified water in the bucket , pour 1 tablespoon of salt or less and stir; cook 40 minutes at 50 percent power in a little 900 watt microwave oven; after cooking turn the top to close the holes and leave for 5 minutes. Fork the rice to fluff it all out on a plate, and witness the prettiest, fluffiest, most delicious rice you have ever eaten. In fact, try it like you are eating popcorn. The rice is not gummy. The rice is not sticky. The is so delicious that it gives the delicious feeling as though you are eating meat! This is healthy eating with the ENJOYMENT!

This has become my favorite kitchen appliance. With this cooker, I can cook just about anything and not worry about messy microwave spills. I use it to cook or steam just about anything: white rice, brown rice, soup,rice flavored with soup, rice and veggies, rice with seafood, potatoes, stews, just about anything. I've even done pasta a time or two with no problems.
The only down side I've found is minor. You have to be careful taking the top off - it's easy to burn yourself from the steam. That's easy to avoid, though.
I already have one steamer. This second one will be for the office.

After trying & returning several microwave rice cookers I decided to give this one a try because of the great price and Nordic Ware's reputation. You MUST follow Nordic Wares instructions for cooking rice. Using any other recipes/directions, will result in your rice being soggy & the water not absorbing. The one noticible difference between the other cookers I tried and this one is that I didn't have to clean my microwave after using this rice cooker. NO SPILLS & OVERFLOWS! I just ordered a second cooker to place in storage just in case this model is discontinued. GREAT PRODUCT AT A GREAT PRICE!Customer Review: Steamy rating here!

Alright, at first I was prepared to toss this into the Popiel Product Pile in the garage if it failed to perform to our expectations. It's a good sized pile.
However, this amazing Nordic Ware Rice Cooker is staying right where I can find it because it does prepare the bestest rice, steamed veggies, and pasta very nicely. Although you do need to give wild rice a little more time than white, I am definitely a fan of this white bucket. Clean-up is a snap compared to stove top and can easily make 2-4 portions depending on one's particular appetite.
This is a keeper!!
