I bought this product because I wanted something that I could use to weigh my food intake and also for cooking purposes. I also thought if I was going to spend $30-$40 on a scale I would look at what amazon had to offer instead of just buying a scale at Target or some place. I am happy with this scale because it measures up to 15lb and displays in metric scale as well, whereas department store scales may only go up to 3lbs. It also has a calibration feature that I have yet to mess with, however, it seems a little sketchy to use only one mass to calibrate this machine. A minimum of two masses should have been used to get the linear relationship between the different masses that you would measure. I do work in a calibration lab but not one that calibrates masses so I could be wrong about the number of points you would need for an accurate mass measurement (i.e. don't quote me).
My only real issue with the product is that on the picture the base looks like a heavy, sturdy structure, which you might think is close to the weight of a small dense book. However, the base is actually a light plastic that may seem somewhat flimsy but is relatively durable as long as you don't hit it with anything too hard. Other than that the product works great, it is made in China if that matters to you, and the stainless steal is solid but a little hard to get completely shiny again if you spill on it.
All-in-all I am happy with this product and would buy it again if I had to do it all over. I even saw that some people buy this for making soap, which I think I might try (perhaps while watching Fight Club).

I am generally very pleased with this scale. I was a little disappointed that the case is a light plastic. I had hoped it was stainless steel like the tray, but the tray is the only part that is stainless steel. I was also disappointed with the fact that the scale shuts off after a short while (two minutes I think) even if you are still slowly adding weight. The manual provides a procedure to select a longer time-out, but I followed that procedure to the letter, several times, and was not able to get to the display that lets you select different time-out settings. On the positive side, I love the fact that the tray covers the whole top surface and is easy to remove to wipe clean. The hard face plate does a great job of covering the front of the scale to keep it clean. The scale also comes with three covers for the display and buttons. This is great as you can use the scale without wiping your hands each time, and then just take off the cover and wipe it or wash it when you are done. These additional covers are quite flimsy though, and there is nothing holding them in place other than the raised profile of the display and buttons. Overall, this is a nice, accurate scale that is easy to use and very easy to keep clean. It seems to be better value than anything else I looked at in this price range.Customer Review: Not Stainless Steel, but does a good job

this scale is as good as its reviews say it is, but I did not get the stainless steel scale I ordered. The one that showed up at my door is black, with a brushed steel platform on top where you put the 'things' to weigh. That is the only piece that is stainless steel.
But I am not going to send it back and wait even longer just because the scale that is pictured, that I ordered, did not come to me. I do get frustrated and irritated that what I saw and ordered is not what I got, but it did not diminish the use of this scale.
Still an excellent product, but the description and picture of 'stainless steel' food scale is not correct, mine was black plastic everywhere except on the top plate for weighing.
