This is basically a good thing to have if your cat(s) are like mine. One has a nasty habit of mixing up my recliner with his litter box. See people with bad reviews because of erroneously setting up and over use. Basically this works best when you are at work or asleep. Do not keep it on when you are sitting a couple feet away from it, get a spray bottle or squirt gun filled with water and own up to training your own cat instead of relying solely on a 8 dollar can of CO2. And do not expect it to not go off when you point it at a high traffic area like front foyer or hallway. A shadow crossing sensor will count as motion. Bottle is empty for 3 days now and cat doesn't even come near it. I only give it four stars due to the fact that i cannot get it in stores and have to wait for it to ship. Other than that, no real beefs. everything has little flaws, you just have to improvise. A 20 dollar sensor is going to have some flaws, but so is a 500 system. Ain't nothing perfect so don't expect perfection. Especially when it comes to training cats. Cats are not dogs and are more resistant to training since they don't care what you think about them.Customer Review: Ssscat Cat Training Aid

After struggling with one of my cats climbing all over our Christmas tree, then getting a new kitten this year. We decided it was time to fight back and reclaim our Christmas tree! No more broken ornaments!!! We did some research and decided this would be the best solution:
1. Was automatic. Just need to change the batteries and it does the work for you. Who really has time to watch their cats all day?
2. Was harmless. Yes it scares the "s" out of the cat but it isnt harming them or us.
3. The cats never messed with the Christmas tree. The kitten was curious when we first had the tree up, so he went to investigate, then Ssscat sprayed him. He jumped a foot and wouldnt go near the tree again. And the other cat went bounding to the tree ready to do her annual climb, til Ssscat put a stop to that!
4. Price was right! Can't afford to spend a fortune on pet trainers. And now we use it to protect our aquarium from the little paws!

I am so glad I found this product.
I love cats and I have two :"double trouble" oriental kittens. Their playtime is like an assault from a demolition Derby. Counter tops, leather sofa and even my car are games for these 8 sets of claws.
I started placing SSSCat in strategic locations and it was like having a magic wand. Almost overnight, these places became cat-taboo. The best achievement was to be able to have a fully decorated Christmas tree totally unmolested for 3 weeks, thanks to the 3 "bodyguards" at its foot.
One additional funny comment: The hair spray cannister on my bathroom shelf has acquired an additional function: It has become an anti-cat device. I saw my older kitten take one look at it and turn away from the shelf ASAP :-) Wonderful! This may not stand the test of time but it was amusing to watch.
The reason for the 4 stars: The refills are a little too costly.

The cost is a little higher than I wanted it to be, but they work great. I notice some variability when the batteries are low, but they do last a decent amount of time.
Anyway, I just wanted to note that I have two of these units mounted to everyday, average compressed air canisters, the kind used to clean computer keyboards. They have WAY more volume, and work just as well (albeit slightly less powerful). Cost effectiveness is great.
If you search around, you can find other hacks people have done with these units, like hacking it to use an AC adapter instead of batteries. I like the portability of batteries better (you'll find yourself moving it from place to place as your cats learn to avoid certain areas).
So all in all, don't let the refill cost scare you. You can mount them to lots of brands of compressed air.
