Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Misto Gourmet Olive Oil Sprayer, Brushed Aluminum

Customer Review: Very handy gadget
Summary: 5 Stars

We grill a lot of vegetables in my household (both on the grill, and in the oven in the wintertime), and this is a great device. Gives a light, uniform coating of oil to the veggies. Other things I use it for include oiling pans, my grill, and for misting the top of an italian pie or calzone with olive oil before baking for a nice golden color. Also, if you coat chicken in a bread crumb mixture, spray it with oil, and then bake it, it comes out crispy on the outside...a healthy alternative if you miss the taste of fried chicken.

We have one, and are ordering a second, so that we can have one for olive oil and another for a lighter vegetable oil.

About the only complaint I have is that if you pump it up too much, the oil mists too well! You'll get a light coating of oil on whatever you're spraying, but there will also be this cloud of tiny oil droplets hanging in the air. What I've learned from experience is just not to pump it up too much.

Customer Review: Great for those who don't like the canned oils!

This was another part of my sister's Christmas gift that she had said that she really wanted. She had one picked out at Target, but after reading the reviews bothe on this site and Target's site I knew that I couldn't get her the exact one that she had picke out. I am very particular about my purchases. I will look at reviews from several websites before making any purchase. This item was used as part of her gift that fell under the free shipping and had some very good reviews. When she opened her gift and saw that she got 3 items that she really wanted she was happy!! I told here that I didn't get the first one she had choosen due to it's reviews. Then I told her about how this one had great reviews (and I pointed out the o-ring that she needs to make sure that doesn't get lost when washing, something that I also learned from several other product reviews). She was very happy!! Now she can make her own oil sprays (and save $$).

Customer Review: Love It!

Since cutting butter out of my diet, I have been using olive oil to grease my pans. However, I do not like greasy/oily food so I prefer a thin coat of oil. I had tried several other methods of spreading oil out in the past, but they were all messy and/or wasteful. The Misto solved both of these problems by spraying a thin, even coat of oil over all my pans with no mess!

The only problem I had when I first got it resulted from filling it too full. At first it would only spray a few seconds before sputtering but as the level went down it worked better. I learned to only fill it half full and it has worked perfectly ever since. I have not had any issues with clogging, but I am going to take other reviewers' advice and depressurize it after each use from now on.

If you cook with oil a lot I highly reccomend this product. And mine will easily pay for itself by eliminating all the oil I used to waste!

Customer Review: Great Kitchen Gadget
Summary: 5 Stars

As long as you follow the instructions, which take all of 30 seconds to read (they come on a little 1 1/2 inch by 1 1/2 fold out brochure), this sprayer is a breeze to operate. It is reliable, and it's nice to know it works on air pressure alone and doesn't do a thing to hurt the atmosphere.
It's also nice to know what kind of ingredients are in the spray bottle you're using. There's no 2 inch list of additives on the side of this bottle.
I bought 2 sprayers, one for olive oil and one for canola oil. Both work great.
Yes, you have to follow the instructions... pretty simple really, fill only halfway (you need the rest of the space to build up air pressure), pump until you feel resistance, and don't hold at anymore than a 45 degree angle when spraying. O, then they tell you how to wash it properly, which I really appreciate because I'd like to get years of use out of them.

Customer Review: The most amazing invention ever!

For all of the nay-sayers, you must not have read the whole couple sentence of instructions. You only fill the misto 1/2 way in order to leave room for the pressure and you pump it ten times and lets out (I forget how long of a mist). Of course as the pressure dies down there will be a stream...thats just physics. It also says to clean it every 6-8 months. This is a blessing for sandwiches, salads, cooking (better, healthier, etc. then Pam cooking spray), bbq, and so on. Being olive oil is a very thick viscous liquid, being able to mist it rather then try and put just a little on without over pouring it with those tall bottles we're all accustomed to never turns out just right. I keep this right on the counter behind my stove and use it multiple times daily. Sure it has the drawback of having to re-pump it, but how else would you add pressure to something that ordinarily doesn't...
