It's a little on the smaller side, depending on what you want to use it for, but that's what is described. I've used this to melt chocolate, create confections for chocolate covered cherries, and even steam broccoli. fMy wife loved this double boiler for it's size and the fact that it is all stainless. Her first use was for fudge and I can attest to it's value. Very nice flavor.

I never used a real double-boiler before, always just placing a smaller pot into the boiling water of a larger one. I bought this item to try to cook in a more civilized manner. Well, maybe it's me, but I can't seem to get it to cook at all. I experimented with the lower pot's water low, high, medium, and the same with the flame. But the sauce in the smaller pot remains cold.
The DB spits water all over the stove, even at the lowest water/flame level. Not so civilized after all.
The silver lining is that I now have two saucepans and one lid that I did not have before. I am sure they will come in handy.
