I had concerns about buying this percolator after using an electric ones for years, but most reviews were great and I decided to give it a try too. It arrived today and I was anxious to perc coffee after suffering with instant coffee the last few weeks. The size looks small but makes 8 cups. It's a perfect low height.
Following the advice of some comments I cut a small hole in the center of a filter (100 small size from Dollar Tree for $1) by folding it into 4 and cutting a small end off the point, It fit into the basket perfectly. Following the directions, I set my gas flame to medium and it turned out great in a short time. The coffee was smooth, clean, and tasted GREAT. The plastic basket and top is not a problem either, it's not flimsy and thin. I'll never go back to an electric pot again and HIGHLY RECOMMEND this one.
Suggest: 1- Using the filter assured the grounds did not fall into the pot from the basket. I did not try it without the filter so not saying it would have.
2- Remove the basket before pouring the coffee out & make sure the opening built into the top is over the spout before pouring so it doesn't miss the cup as some complained it did. It doesn't.
3 - When you pour the first cup of coffee turn off the burner. It's easier to re-heat it on low than to burn the pot.
