Customer Review: Nice Warmth For A Stainless Steel Kitchen

This a great item to splurge a little on yourself. I don't like many of the Batali items, but this one caught my eye. It's a nice size, not too big, not too small. It's quite substantial and obviously carved out of a solid wood block. The natural wood is a nice touch to warm up the granite and stainless steel. A few reviews pointed out that the lids did not fit well. Mine was just a bit off too, but I adjusted the hinge pin down just a bit with a few light taps with a small hammer, and now it fits perfectly. The magnets are strong and keep the sections aligned, but easily separated. The item arrived in an empty box, no packaging or wrapping and it was just rolling around in the box. Perhaps this is why the unit gets out of alignment? Someone should rethink the packaging. I keep regular Kosher salt in the larger bottom compartment and I think I will get some of the Hawaiian Black Lava Salt (here on Amazon) for the smaller top compartment. It's a fun item to have next to the stove and if your monogram is "M" that makes it just a bit more special for you!Customer Review: Bought 2 - 1 cracked

I loved the design of this salt cellar and bought two (thinking I would have one always near the stove and one for the dinner table). While I do still love the design (enough to come back to replace one), the inherant problems with wood in a kitchen is splitting due to the grain - 1 has split and 1 is perfect.
Weight is perfect for one-hand use and holds about 1/2 cup on bottom and less than 1/4 cup on top... perfect for iodized salt and kosher salt at hand. LOVE the magnet closure.
I love this design enough to give 4 out of 5 stars and repurchase, because I can't really fault the manufacturer for wood's tendency to split and I am in very-dry-Colorado.

My wife was really wanting one of these for Christmas, so I searched and ordered this one from Amazon. Once it arrived, I simply wrapped it for Christmas and let her open it. Well, it turns out that the wood surrounding the hinge was broken and couldn't be fixed with wood glue. When I tried returning it I was not able to get a replacement, merely a refund. So it looked pretty but just didn't work out for us.Customer Review: Heavy duty and good looking

This is a great addition to my kitchen counter. The double compartment helped me to keep both Salt and Pepper within reach while I cook, yet it saves counter space and looks great!
I gave it 4 start instead of 5 because the lid would fall off when I open it too far. It's not a big deal because I can just put it back on. Good value for the money.

I purchased 3 of these (2 for gifts) and the quality of finish and fit between all 3 are different. 1 had a much rougher finish compared to the other 2 (I sanded it to smooth it out). Also, 1 had a slight gap from the lid so it didn't fit perfectly. Overall it is very nice and the price is reasonable. Just beware that the quality can vary.
