Like a few other reviewers, I couldn't get up the nerve to spend so much money on a machine that makes something which can essentially be done in a blender. Plus, it seemed so one dimensional. However, having finally made the purchase (and putting up with relentless teasing from my hubby), I want to tell you that I LOVE THE MACHINE! I thought I would store it on the bar downstairs, but I think it's found a permanent home in the kitchen. It's very easy to use and does exactly what you would expect it to do. It has a kick-butt motor to drive the blender blades and it shaves the ice to perfection. I also use it to make nonalhoholic drinks and smoothies. Honestly, you'll find lots of uses for it if you buy it. One thing I learned to do soon after firing it up was to fine-tune my drinks. If they need a little more ice, no worries. I just hit the toggle switch for "ice only" and then give it a couple of bursts of "blend only". Or, if the drink is already poured, you can just hold your glass under the dispenser part and shave ice directly into your glass. Easy as pie.
Finally, there's the entertainment value. It's a lot of fun to use at parties. Everyone wants to play with it. And I am sure you will find lots of creative uses.
If you want a little smoother consistency, make your daquiaris or magaritas ahead of time and put them in your freezer until ready for use. They'll be even better.

My husband and I have been eyeing up one of these machines for well over a year now. He mentioned about getting me one for my birthday and again as a Christmas gift. I kept telling him that I didn't need one (although a little part of me wanted one). Anyway, it was a very long and hard winter in the Northeast and we just wanted a break. We decided to have a "Mexican" night at our house and during the planning of food and spirits, I decided to give the Key West Margaritaville machine another look. Amazon had it at an unbeatable price and I didn't think again about ordering the DM1000. Shipping and delivery was superb and we were anxious to get blending. We practiced one night for ourselves and it was a breeze. It is great to read others' comments here because you do learn some hints, one of which is to chill the glasses and mixing container to help keep the beverage frozen longer. Party night came at our house and every single person who we invited showed up and they all commented and loved the Margaritaville maker. I feel certain that at least one of the couples is going to be owning their very own in the near future. We are looking forward already to the next party which will be bigger and better (and outside!). The only negative feedback I would give is that it is loud, but fortunately, it doesn't take long to mix the three drinks. However, my husband did blend at least 10-12 batches.Customer Review: IT Rocks! No really, IT ROCKS!

I fired it up that night with my fiance and friends.
We made 3 different types of "freezy" drinks.
The machine is so worth it!
I was considering buying the full size Parrot-Ice machine for 2k, but decided to be a little frugal. I'm glad I did!
This machine will keep a party of 2-15 people happy as long as you have TONS of ice on hand.
I set it up on a table with 3, or 4 different types of mixes and a big cooler of ice.
We have thrown 2 pool parties, and 2 crawfish boils with this machine kicking out drinks. Not once has there been a problem, except for XXXXXXX getting her bikini top ripped off by the ice hooper lid.....but that was NOT the machines fault! (mostly not) :)
Cleaning the machine is just like cleaning your blender, but with a few more parts. It is a drag, but it is worth it. It takes about 5 minutes to clean and dry all the parts.
We discovered a low calorie freezy drink you should try.
Crystal Lite made with 1 part water, 2 parts vodka, and ice.
Set the machine for 3 servings and add the liquid to the 3cup measure on the side.
Give the blended mixture a little more shaved ice and viola!
Seriously buy the machine, or you will hate yourself and stub your toe.

I just received one of these as a gift from my sister. I was wondering about the quality at first . . . what would it be like, would it work well, etc . . . It was a complete surprise gift so I hadn't done any research. I can tell you from using it that it is REALLY cool! My wife and I set it up for 2 drinks and from the moment I flipped the start switch to pulling the pitcher off of the base to pour drinks only took 30 seconds. That ice shaver really makes all the difference in the world. Making margaritas with a normal blender is a pain even if you have a good one because it takes quite a bit of time to get all of the ice blended and even then there are still chunks that get in the way. With the ice shaver the consistency of these drinks are great!! There were some very, very small chucks but nothing that would hinder a normal drinking straw. We have some insulated glasses that we served them in and the consistency of the drink stayed constant for quite a while. I decided to take a look here on Amazon to read some of the reviews and see if there if there were going to be any problems that I needed to watch for and was very pleasantly surprised to see all the positive feedback. Enough so that I decided to leave my own (which is rare for me)
This is a great buy! It works extremely well and makes great drinks!

I certainly didn't...but OH NO...a "blender" this is certainly NOT!! It's beautiful outside and we all need a fabulous frozen DRINK! You know the kind like you get `somewhere else' that you can't seem to replicate at home! Not anymore... I just got the Margaritaville Frozen concoction maker and LOVE it! I realized as I enjoyed the first sip of my blueberry-lime cocktail, I had to make sure everyone I know gets one of these makers for themselves. No household should be without a device that will create such awesome treats! You deserve it. It's super easy to use (I admit, I didn't even read the instructions)...just fill it with ice up top and add in fruit and whatever your drink of choice is in the blender part and away you go. Instant gratification! The machine comes with a Margaritville shot glass, a tin for salt to rim your glass, and coasters - who could ask for anything more? (Except maybe a bottle of tequila). It's light-weight enough to move around so we just took it outside and shave/blended up summer drinks for the neighbors. I could go on and on about the fabulous-ness that is my new Concoction Maker but you really should find out for yourself - don't let this summer pass you buy - get one!
