14inch hand hammered pow wok. (round bottom, carbon steel)
I bought this wok for my parents after I noticed they were cooking on a little anti-stick coated ...thing that resembled a wok.
Shipping - The box looked like it had been run over when it arrived. However, the wok is durable and survived.
The Wok - Some reviewers said their wok had no hammer pattern, this one has little circles, 7/16 of an inch, pounded all over it. It looks very much like the picture and I like it.
The bowl is exactly 14 inches in diameter and a hair over 4 inches deep.
The handle is about 8 inches total length and 1 and 1/4 inches diameter.
The steel portion of the handle is welded on, which is good. The wood part is held in with two little nails. The wood is not very finished, but I don't think it matters too much at this price point. The handle does not come straight out, but up at an angle between 25 and 30 degrees.
Three things to consider:
The wok needs to be cleaned before seasoning. The seasoning isn't so bad, but getting the sticky film off is.
This is a round bottom wok and will require a wok ring + LARGE gas stove to work well.
14 inches plus the 8 inch handle means you may find it difficult to store.
Mom says she likes it, though she hasn't cooked much on it yet. The only thing it could possibly use is a second "helper" handle.
