Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of MIU France CanDo Safety Can OpenerCustomer Review: Looks like company is OUT OF BUSINESS Summary: 1 Stars
I just updated (below) my review on 11-13-10 and today found out the the company DI-2000, Inc. was dissolved in 2009. Don't expect to take advantage of the "lifetime guarantee" mentioned on the packaging.

I've used this opener for several months, now and I've changed my mind about how it operates and my initial assessment. Many times I have to go around the can twice, and it still doesn't cut the lid. I've had many mangled can lids after having to use another method of opening them. I'm not sure if the problem is a certain type of can construction, but cans like tomato paste, tuna fish, tomato sauce, condensed milk are very difficult for this opener to handle. I'm going to order another opener today and just wanted to update my review of this one. Too bad - I like the edge that it creates on the cans when it does work. It is just not reliable. I get anxious every time I have to open a can, wondering if it will be a hassle or not.
Customer Review: Great...for 1 month! Summary: 1 Stars
After reading the reviews, I thought this sounded like the perfect can opener especially when cooking with children. It worked great for a month and then I noticed some cans required me to go around the can twice in order to remove the lid completely.
I thought it may have been the way the can was designed, so I kept using the can opener. The last time I used it, parts of the lid were cut but not the entire lid even after going around it several times. When I tried to lift the lid with my hands, I managed to get a 1/2" slice on my finger from a jagged piece on the top.
I tried it one last time to see what it did to the can and there were a couple rough spots on the lid which could have easily sliced a finger.
I am guessing this may be a defective opener based on all the reviews. If so, I'd be more than willing to try another one since it was great when I first purchased it.
Customer Review: Great till it quits working... then it is garbage. Summary: 1 Stars
Over the course of a few months I opened less then 2 dozen cans before it would not work anymore. Do the math; I do not own a cat, but if that were cans of cat food the prorated cost of the opener would have cost as much per can as the cat food!
There is a good explanation as to why all the ratings for this can opener are either 1 star or 5. That is because people love this can opener when they first get it. Too many people are too anxious to write an immediate review. They try out the product one time and based on that they immediately post a nice review and rate product 5 stars. Read the 1-star reviews before you buy this product and you will see that these are the people who owned this for at least a month or two.
Do not throw your money away on this piece of junk.
Customer Review: Best can opener I've ever owned! Summary: 1 Stars
I don't open enough cans to merit getting an electric can opener, so thru the years I've tried different manual ones, which all get harder to use after a few months. I read all the great reviews on the CanDo opener and got one. When I tried it the first time, it was gliding along so smooth and easy that I didn't think it was doing anything. Then, poof, the top is off without any effort on my part. I'm getting a few more to give to relatives who need this great gadget.
Update: after 8 months of light use, it just stopped working. The cutting mechanism got very rusty...why they use materials that rust on a kitchen gadget is beyond me. Back to looking for another can opener.
Customer Review: Great at first but only lasted two months Summary: 1 Stars
I received it April 9, 2009 and today's date is June 3, 2009.
I only use it once a day to open a can of dog food. It worked great for two weeks. Then it required two passes the next two weeks. Now it usually leaves a part of the lid unoppened even after repeated passes. The problem is that the cutting wheel doen't engage far enough into the side of the lid.
I think the working parts must be made of poor quality materials to go out of adjustment so quickly. I opened the plastic plate on the side of the cutting head to expose the working internal parts. It is built to be thrown away when it stops working, with nothing being fixable.
