Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of MIU France CanDo Safety Can OpenerCustomer Review: Great but very short-lived... Summary: 2 Stars
I received this can opener for Christmas 2008 (don't laugh -- I requested it) and I loved it -- while it worked. Which was for exactly 4 months. Now I want one of the same type that actually lasts. It won't be this brand!
Customer Review: 5 months can opener Summary: 2 Stars
At the beginning it was great, but after 5 months only it stopped working, the sharpness is gone now it is useless. My recommendation is you spend more for a can opener. I won't recommend this one.
Customer Review: Works for a while Summary: 2 Stars
This is a nice can opener. While it works. Does all the things it says it will. However, after about a year it stops. Won't open anything, now. My advice is to keep looking...
Customer Review: Becomes useless FAST Summary: 1 Stars
It is easy to use after a try or 2 and it cuts the side of the can (just below the rim) instead of the top. This makes it easy to replace the top and it looks as if the can has not been opened. In fact, I've seen a video online that shows you how to make a hiding place for money by replacing the lid of some can. The benefit is that the lid will not fall into the can & the can edge & top will not cut you or leave a small metal shard which may puncture you or fall into the can's contents. The downside is the satisfaction of seeing the can open as you twist and in my case being able to press down on the lid of a can of tuna over the sink to expel the water or oil.
After you are finished going around the can you can either back twist the lever & remove the lid with you hands or don't back twist the lever and just lift/twist the lid off.
I like it.
REVISED OPINION - Bought 7/30/09 & stopped working a few months later. It still works on some large cans but will not work on an 8oz can of del monte or hunts tomato sause. I think that the side cutting wheel gets dull FAST. I originally gave it 5 stars after 2 weeks of use.
Customer Review: Flawed Design - Buyer Beware Summary: 1 Stars
We went through a similarly designed can opener from Rosle. Actually, two Rosles broke on us! I thought I might have bought a lemon the first time. The idea of opening a can without creating a sharp edge, and being able to just lift the lid off, is really brilliant. Nice idea in theory but it wears out the openers! The glowing reviews on Amazon convinced me to try the MIU CanDo. It even seemed like it came with a lifetime warranty! More about that later. The MIU looks awesome, feels great in the hands, and works like a charm for a few months. Then it just grinds to a halt! The little "teeth" on the gear seem worn down. I believe that, like the Rosle, this kind of opener just wasn't built to last. How they can be allowed to sell a product where 100% of the units will fail with regular use is beyond me! Get an old-fashioned, tried-and-true, opener like the Oxo SteeL Can Opener. That's what I'm going to do! So far, no luck contacting Miufrance regarding the "lifetime warranty." Buyer beware!
