Customer Review: Seems to work on synthetic corks to me

It's certainly easy to use. The packaging claims that this corkscrew does not work on synthetic corks, but I had no trouble with it on the rubber corks found in Yellow Tail bottles, and that was on my first try. Of course, I've only used it a few times so far, so I can't say whether long term use on synthetic corks would degrade its performance--perhaps damage the nonstick coating on the worm? But certainly it seems to work for now. The stand is nice, too: in addition to holding the wine opener device itself, it has a depression that holds the foil cutter and a notch underneath that stores one of the spare worms. It would be nice if it could store both of the spare worms, but that's not a terribly large flaw.Customer Review: Excellent Price and Quality

This item is priced well and the quality is top notch. I've purchased different wine openers from differnt brands, and this is the one that I keep on re-ordering for gifts because of the great value. I purchased a similar Pinzon opener for $2.00 less and the trade up to MIU is definitely worth it. The stainless steel finish and design is sturdy, where the the regular plastic ones feel too flimsy. This also comes with a stand which is a great added value. Given as a gift, this will surprise and delight as you can find similar quality items at department and specialty stores for $30-$50. Scince I couldn't find the other companies, same Kind of Priced Corkscrew. For the Pice...any Price these are Great. Easy to Use, of course after the First Time!!! The cap-Knife (circular, and in a Horse shoe shaped Inclosed handle , works Just as Good as the Others, its a learned Nack. The Opener-made where else, Will Hold up Nicely for a Long Tine, and Work Great. Don't put in Dish washer, and the Less you drop it !! It Stand took some time to appreciate, but like I Implied, They Don't make the Other Variation-basically the same 20 something $ mechanical opener- and will Keep the Opener from Falling. This is a really good "rabbit" like wine opener. If you've never used one, you'll be impressed the first time you use it. Not only is it faster but it is also more reliable and it's hard to break a cork with such an opener, even an old cork. That's a gift that will keep on being appreciated.
Price is really good and quality is on par. I generally use it once a week and I have no problem with the corkscrew. The screw itself is replaceable and I have yet to use the replacement after several years of use. The foil cutter broke after several months, but that can be easily replaced -- or just use a knife to remove the foil, as it is customary to do.

...to buy one of these? I love it. After so many years of suffering along with the can opener/corkscrew; of destroying corks and having to fish pieces out of the wine, yanking and pulling and cajolling--suddenly with this purchase--I have the answer! This devise is well made and a joy to use. One effortless motion and the cork is out. It makes you want to open up another bottle just to try it again.
This would make an ideal gift item. Anyone who enjoys the occasional bottle of wine is sure to appreciate this well designed wine opener.
