Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of MIU Flexible Cutting Board, Set of 5

Customer Review: thicker than the cheap in-store brands, not so thick as to warp horribly
Summary: 5 Stars

These work as advertised - however you obviously should understand you what you are buying...

Thin sheets made out of a polymer (HDPE in this case):
- are eventually worn out / cut through by sharp items such as knives
- tend [to varying degrees] to warp buckle over time, especially when exposed to heat [think dishwasher]
- Note that it is possible to re-flatten warped pieces of thin hdpe (eg these boards) by stacking them flat under something flat and heavy (like a stack of books) and leaving them for a day or two. This simply stretches back out whichever area's have experienced shrinkage.

Compared to the several sets of hdpe boards I've had from local stores over the last few years, these seem as good or better.
- slightly thicker, but I don't notice any additional warping over the thin variety when dishwashing.
- should be a little more durable due to the thickness

I do dishwash these things - the easy of dirtying several and throwing them in the dishwasher is the only reason we use them - otherwise I would just use the wooden chopping block and hand-wash it.

These are flexible enough to funnel, although I use a baker's spatula / dough scraper to scoop & dump chopped items, unlike funneling this get's everything, even wet ingredients.

Customer Review: Is a cutting board just a cutting board?
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm an old southern cook and have always used cutting boards of wood. Some handed down from my Mom. I used a plastic that had circles for my pie crust to roll out, and loved it. I saw these and thought they might not stand up to my sharp knives.
I was Wrong! These bargain flexible cutting boards are made of thick quality silicone, and I've been using them everyday. It's so nice to finish chopping, gather the edges, make a loose funnel, and slide them into my bowl or pan on the stove. The size fits in my sink of hot soapy dishwater, and air dries, looking good as new. I bought two sets, and use matching colors for place-mats on my dining table. They wipe clean easily, and are pretty behind my white china. My grand-daughter used the white one with her washable markers and made me a pretty picture, keeping her busy while I made her favorite cake. I can't do any of this with my old boards, and no more disinfecting or seasoning after I use it. Let old dogs learn new tricks, and find out for yourself!

Customer Review: Great product, really protects your countertops
Summary: 5 Stars

I really like the color coding on these mats. They also store easily (do not roll them, just tuck them behind an appliance such as your toaster) and clean up easily. They will definately protect your countertops from nicks and scratches. I often take mine out to cut a bagel or a piece of fruit, then lift it to prevent crumbs or food particles from falling on the countertop/floors and easily rinse them off in the sink. If you cannot afford a good set of wood cutting boards this set will definately do the job. I do not use these too often for meats since I prefer wooden grooved cutting boards, but they will work for that (although juices may run onto your countertops) but these are used multiple times a day in my household for at least the last 6-9 months and are just now needing to be replaced due to a couple of cuts through the mat. They will get a bit stiffer/brittle when washed in the dishwasher so I would not recommend it, but it can be done. What a fantastic invention!

Customer Review: Good value for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted to wait until I had used these for awhile before reviewing them, based on the other reviews I had read. After more than 7 months I still like these as much as I did the day I got them. Our household sees less cooking than most..only a few days per week. We also do not use a dishwasher, but these are easy enough to hand wash. They live on the counter, between appliances and are out of the way, yet easy to grab. As another reviewer mentioned, I also use them to freeze items individually before packaging them up. I especially love that one board is designated for onion/garlic so that other foods do not pick up the aromas. Flexibility depends on what you were expecting. I can (using two hands) roll it up enough to put what I have chopped into the pan, but not into a funnel shape.

Bottom line - I am happy with these and will be buying more when these need replacing.

Customer Review: Great Product, Excellent Price
Summary: 5 Stars

For the price these cannot be beat. I use these types of "cutting boards" to protect my nice wooden cutting board from bacteria when preparing meats. I have used several brands and they are all pretty similar, none of them last a long time. I wouldn't honestly recomend them for use on a countertop without something else underneath them.

All of this type of cutting board will curl with use, even more if you put them in the dishwasher. Some more than others though. If you buy the $10 version you might get better results, but when you consider you get 3 of these for $5, its hardly worth buying the more expensive version. Especially when you consider that even the best ones are only going to last a short while with regular use.
