Customer Review: Great Beverage Container; Lousy Lid
Summary: 4 Stars

Back in the good old days, you used to be able to buy orange juice in glass containers which were much the same size and shape as this container. Such orange juice containers were extraordinarily useful, as they were infinitely reusable and their squared shape was both easy to grab and quite space-efficient in the refrigerator. And glass is just plain *really nice* for the storage of food & drink. (Hello all you marketers out there, please get a clue!!!!) Glass is easy to clean, and it keeps the taste of its contents intact and separate from the rest of what's in the refrigerator. I still have an old orange juice container that I've continued to use lo these many years for the family's orange juice concentrate!

But alas, you can't readily find orange juice containers like that any more. This container is about as close as I've found. It's reasonably close in size and concept, and I *think* I had one just like it (alas sometimes glass does break) a few years ago that had a well-fitted rubber-type lid. It didn't have the virtue of being readily available almost for free the way the old orange juice containers used to be, but in all other respects it was as good or maybe even better.

Alas, the lid provided with this container is no longer well-fitted rubber like I seem to remember. Instead, the hard, cheap-feeling plastic lid provided with this container *sort of* fits the opening of the container, and seems like it's designed so that you could rotate the lid to seal/unseal the container to pour (the lid even has a tiny vistigial hole that presumably would have let the air in as you pour the contents of the container out). But inexplicably, instead of being made of a snug-sealing rubber-type substance, the hard plastic lid is both inflexible and about 1.5 mm too small for the opening. Which means that the lid does not seal properly at all. (Perhaps you could manage to shake the contents of this container if you held the lid on very tightly, but your odds of avoiding a spill would be higher if you left the lid off and instead tightly held the palm of your hand across the mouth of the container). It's almost as if the manufacturer felt compelled to make the lid recylable, but didn't modify the design of the top so that the new material (which by the way is not-very-recyclable #5 plastic) would actually continue to fit its intended purpose.

Despite this bizarre and unfortunate flaw, this container is far more useful for storing liquids in the refrigerator than anything else I've found readily available in the market. Unless I can find some more of those great old orange juice containers, I'll be buying more.

As I say, a great product, except that it's let down by a bizarrely inadequate lid that doesn't quite seal.

Customer Review: Nice Glass Pitcher
Summary: 4 Stars

I love glass. I like nice heavy drinking glasses made in France. I am always leaving my glasses in the fridge to chill. I have a juicer and it has never suited me to store my juiced juices in plastic. It just seems... gauche. I really like this pitcher. It hold a chill nicely. It's not as heavy as I'd like. Some of the Italian brand glass pitchers have more of a heft to them. Of course, it probably makes it more ergonomic and more suitable for holding larger quantities than something heftier.

I didn't experience any quality control issues, no extra glass or irregularities. The plastic stopper in the top seems a bit flimsy. I would have preferred a glass stopper. This is very functional however and fits nicely on both the door of my fridge and on the shelf. The shape is nice, easy to hold onto and pour from. In general, a nice, handy pitcher even if there is nothing to rave about.

Customer Review: My favorite pitcher
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my favorite pitcher. We had bought one over the summer last year in the local store, but it had an early demise when it was knocked off a counter. We went in search for another one at the store but was told it was a "seasonal item." I enjoy ice tea year round so I needed it replaced and looked on here for it and was happy Amazon carried it.
This is a great value and solid pitcher. It's the perfect weight and so easy to pour with the way that the glass is designed. Sometimes the lid drips when I pour so I just take the lid off when pouring. If you are like me and don't have a dishwasher, a great kitchen gadget to order with it is a bottle brush. Oxo Good Grips Bottle Brush is the one I use and it works well.
