Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lello 4070 Gelato Junior

Customer Review: ice cream maker - 1 STAR!!
Summary: 5 Stars

So far, so good. It's great because I don't have to deal with ice and salt, or a part which needs to be kept in the freezer.

We used this product 3 times. On the fourth use, it caused our GFCI and
then a 15 AMP circuit breaker to pop. At the recommendation of the
president of the company (Lello), we tried it in another location, and it
popped a 20 AMP circuit breaker! This unit was clearly defective, and yet
the company insists we ship it across country, at our expense ($45 using
simple ground shipping with insurance). The requirement in the warranty
is not specified anywhere in the purchasing information! We requested a
replacement, or compensation for repairing this unit locally. A reputable
company would have returned our money or offered to replace the unit.

Customer Review: So Delish!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This product works wonders! I am big into making my own flavors, and making healthier than store bought versions. This machine is great for that! It isn't loud at all, definately a big upgrade from the salt and ice mixer I used to have that could wake up the dead. The fact that you just pop your ingredients in the canister and stick it in is amazing, no messy clean up whatsoever, or need for trips to the store for ice/salt. The only slight disadvantage is that if you want to add toppings that spread throughout, you need to add it after its almost at icecream consistency and for that you have to pop off the top (theres no slide window to add through while its mixing). But even doing that extra step is simple after 30 min's of churning. Soft ice cream DEFINATELY never takes longer than 45, usually 37-40, and hard is about 45-48 min.
Buy it and Enjoy!!!

Customer Review: Great Self-Contained Ice Cream Maker
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking for a maker that had its own freezing capacity. This has fit the bill. The ice cream gets firm to enjoy in about 35-40 minutes. One time I added thawed raspberries (25 minutes into the churning) and it was fantastic. Most of the time since I'm watching my carbs I use a third cultured yogurt, two thirds milk and sugar substitute in the recipe. If you're apt to follow recipes to get the basics of ice cream making, there are plenty suggested in their interesting book. It has ice cream trivia facts at the bottom of each page to "flavor" one's experience. If adding fruit, don't fill container much beyond a half to allow for additions and expansion.

This machine is quiet and a joy to use. One change I'd recommend is a stainless steel mixing bowl for the paddle, instead of aluminum alloy.

Customer Review: Great Machine
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this machine in May of 2004, so I have had it for over a year. I have used it frequently and am always delighted with the results. Like many others here,I too have used other ice cream makers-from the hand cranked w/ rock salt and ice type to the cannister in the freezer styles and this maker is the best. There is very little prep work involved in making excellent ice cream time after time.It is quiet and makes a quart of delicious ice cream in about 30 minutes. If I am cooking the ingredients, I make them the night before and allow the mixture to cool overnight. I have never tried pouring the mixture right from the stove top into the cannister-seems like too much stress on the freezing unit to attempt.All-in-all, this machine for under $200 is the buy of a lifetime.

Customer Review: Great Product
Summary: 5 Stars

I finally bought this ice cream maker after incredible research, including lots of debating whether to go with a substantially higher priced product. After reading the glowing reviews of the earlier, now discontinued, version (the 4060), I was thrilled to see this product on amazon and bought it right away. What a great investment!

This machine makes fantastic ice cream. I couldn't stop eating the peanut butter ice cream I made - - now that I'm going low carb, I'm looking forward to the sugar-free versions! The machine is considerably quieter than I had expected (I had it running in the same large kitchen/dining area where we ate dinner with guests, and no one noticed it was running). Done in 35 to 40 minutes. Highly recommended.
