I've only had it for a couple of months so I can't really address durability, and I've used it only for hard-boiled eggs so I can't address versatility either. But I can tell you that it is surprisingly heavy for its size and definitely gets the egg-slicing job done. It also goes through the dishwasher without protest (try that with a cheapie plastic one!) Recently the egg slicer I've been using forever finally gave up it's last slice. I bought one from a local home store but took it back when the slicers broke the first time I used it. I LOVE Amazon and tried my luck. I was not disappointed. Cuts smoothly and cleanly each time. So far only on eggs but strawberry season is arriving soon! LOVE IT!!

If you want a reliable slicer that will last for years, this is the slicer to own or give as a gift. Creates perfect slices. Wash after wash, the dishwasher has not tarnished its finish. The wires haven't stretched like with cheaper slicers, but I admit I never use it for mushrooms, cheese, etc. so I don't know how it would stand up to firmer foods.Customer Review: High quality, sturdy slicer

I had gone through 6 different egg/mushroom slicers in the past two years. Plastic ones that broke after one or two uses, metal ones where the finish wore off and left black marks all over my food... and then this one. I have had this one for months and it is still going strong... and trust me, it gets a workout slicing a lot of mushrooms!Customer Review: Heavy duty

What else can I say? It's a high quality egg slicer. It can slice my eggs either direction, which is a must for me, and I can slice many olives at once when I need sliced olives. Haven't tried anything else yet, but I have faith that it will give me lots of great use for many years. Well worth the extra money.
