If you had told me that I would spend $13 for an egg slicer, I would have told you that I would be committed first. Well, I've broken two slicers, and bought another one for $2.50 and was displeased with it. I carefully read all the reviews of this one and decided to go for it. I am not disappointed. This one is so well made that it will probably outlive me. I especially like the fact that it slices eggs in either direction, and of course, that it goes in the dishwasher. Supposedly it will slice mushrooms and kiwi, so I'm going to try it out. This model is fairly heavy, and the wires are substantial. You get what you pay for. I hope that this is the last one of these that I buy; if not, I will revisit this review.Customer Review: The best egg slicer I've owned

I went through a number of egg slicers, only to fine that the wires broke or bent and THEN broke in relatively rapid fashion. One year, I went through 3 slicers. When I took the time to do the reaearch, I found the Leifheit and am now in bliss. It is substantial and the wires are durable. My only problem with it is that you need to gently wash the wires immediately after use or they are difficult to clean. If you put it in the dishwasher, you probably wouldn't have that problem but I hand wash mine. I highly recommend this product. Recently, I purchased two egg slicers on the internet. Two, because the first was a light weight model that couldn't handle the stress of slicing a strawberry. The cutting wire separated from the frame on it's first use. It was replaced by the Leifheit; a heavy brute capable of dispatching all comers, eggs, strawberries and mushrooms alike. Depending on the size of the egg, the slicer made up to ten even slices with only the slightest pressure. Ditto for the strawberries and mushrooms. Leifheit Pro Line Stainless Steel Egg SlicerThis slicer is simply perfect! Eggs can be turned either way. It slices perfectly. The body is made in such a way as to prevent the sections from slipping. It is sturdy and dishwasher safe. I gave my mother one for Mother's Day too. Having recently gone through several slicers that were a waste of her money, she loves this one.Customer Review: Olives, too

I can hear you going aaack!, but yes, I use my egg slicer to slice whole green and ripe olives. (It's sooo much cheaper.) I had been using a slicer I received as a shower gift 35 years ago - a cheap little plastic one. I broke it on an olive pit! The reviews are what made me choose thise particular brand, plus it looked like it would be able to handle the olives. So far, so good. And, it does a good job on eggs, too.
