Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lasko 3733 20-Inch Box FanCustomer Review: Moves enough air without becoming super-loud Summary: 4 StarsThis fan works as advertised, and like any box fan makes some noise when running. I do think it's quieter than the cheap Sears fan I bought 5 years ago, but it probably moves a little less air. Airflow is sufficient to cool a large bedroom pretty well though. I'd recommend giving this fan a try...anything with more airflow will become exponentially louder. I'm not sure though that the Amazon fan at this price is much different than the Lasko fans at some large brick and motar stores for somewhat less.
Customer Review: very nice fan! Summary: 5 StarsThis fan is very quiet and blows a nice breeze. It is not as good as the preimium box fan but I still like this fan. Some people are saying that this fan is loud but I don't see how loud it is. It realy has a nice quiet sound to it and it moves a nice amount of air. GREAT FAN!
Customer Review: Don't believe the hype, buy it local and try it out yourself. Summary: 1 StarsI went out to my local Lowe's today and bought a few fan to test out. They had this exact same model and contrary to what people are saying here, it DOES NOT move a large volume of air.
I'm not saying that people here are lying or work for Lasko, but maybe they have just never had 3 diff models to test side by side. At the local store, they had the CFM ratings of each fan but this model wasn't listed, nor was any CFM rating found on the box. It's CFM rating is probably low so the Lasko probably doesn't want to advertise it.
Of the 3 models I tested, I kept the Feature Comforts model which moves about 3000 CFM of air. I live in a 4000 sq ft home and bought these to flush out the hot air when I get home from work so I can cool the house w/AC faster. I tested the fans by setting them up in the windows on the same wall and stepped back from the windows as far as I could till I could no longer feel the air being moved by each fan.
The Lasko model pushed air about 7ft till I could no longer feel anything. The Feature Comforts model pushed the air 29ft. The Feature Comforts model also had the most uniform airflow w/o any "dead spots" near the center of the airstream.
I would advise anyone to goto your local store and try the same, it costed me less than $70 to try the models I was interested in. The only problem is the hassle of boxing up the ones that didn't perform well and the cost of gas for returning it.
The Feature Comforts model number is 184705 and is an 18" fan. It's amazing that it can push 4x more air than the 20" Lasko model. Unfortunately, it's not on their website but it is available locally for only $24.
Hopefully, Lasko will read this review and improve their fans and have an indepedent lab rate its CFM and put it on the box for educated consumers.
Customer Review: OK but rattles Summary: 3 StarsI use the box fan for white noise and to keep the air moving in my room while I sleep. This fan was more expensive than other fans I've bought at local department stores and it makes an annoying ticking noise. I can get rid of the ticking by either putting weight on it or slightly leaning it. I don't recommend it for people who use it for sleeping like me. It is OK for moving air but the high speed is like medium on other common box fans.
Customer Review: wonderful sleeping fan Summary: 5 StarsI bought this fan after my 10 year old fan finally died on me. I use it every single night for at least 8 hours and it works beautifully. The sound is perfect for someone who uses it to cover up outside noises while sleeping or for the white noise effect. I would highly recommend this product.
